Start with the apps using the most battery, then adjust only the settings that match your needs. On a Galaxy A37, reducing background activity can help limit unnecessary work, but it may also delay notifications and syncing. Review permissions app by app, keep software updates current, and confirm menu names on your installed One UI build because labels and availability can vary.
Check which apps are using battery before changing settings
Open the phone’s battery settings and review battery usage by app. The exact menu path and labels can vary by software version or region, so use Settings search for “battery” if the option is not where you expect. Look for an app consuming a disproportionate share of power compared with how often you use it.
Before restricting an app, consider whether it needs to work when you are not actively using it. Messaging, navigation or location tracking, wearable connections, and scheduled backups or sync may depend on background activity. Restricting those apps can make them less reliable or delay alerts. Start with apps that do not need to notify or update promptly rather than disabling useful system functions indiscriminately.

Samsung’s battery controls may offer ways to limit background use or place selected apps into sleep states. Search Settings for “background usage limits” or “sleeping apps” to find the controls available on your installed build; verify the exact labels on the phone.

- Good candidates: rarely used games, shopping apps, or utilities that do not need real-time updates.
- Keep unrestricted when needed: apps that must deliver timely messages, maintain location tracking, connect to a wearable, or perform scheduled syncing.
- After a change: check whether notifications, tracking, or sync still behave as expected. Remove the restriction if a feature stops working reliably.
Choose display settings that suit your priorities
A lower display refresh option, reduced brightness, or shorter screen timeout can be reasonable ways to limit display use, but the trade-off is visual comfort or convenience. Treat these as preferences to test, not guaranteed battery fixes. Search Settings for “motion smoothness,” “brightness,” or “screen timeout” and use the options actually shown on your device; availability and names can vary by installed software.
Reducing brightness to a comfortable level and shortening the time the screen stays on when idle are practical starting points. If a lower refresh setting makes scrolling feel less smooth, return to the setting you prefer.

Review app permissions and location access
Check what each app can access, especially location, camera, microphone, and contacts. In Settings, search for “permission manager” or “permissions” to review access by permission type or app. For location, choose the narrowest access that still supports the feature you use—for example, deny access when an app does not need it, or allow it only while using the app when that option is available.
- Location: decide whether the app needs your location at all times, only while in use, or not at all.
- Camera and microphone: allow access for features that use them, and revoke it from apps with no clear need.
- Contacts: keep access limited to apps that need your address book for a feature you use.
Permission names and choices can differ by software build and region. Review the controls shown on your phone rather than assuming every app offers the same options.

Make notifications useful without missing important alerts
Review app notifications in Settings by searching for “notifications” or opening an app’s notification controls. Turn off categories you do not need, such as promotional or low-priority alerts, while keeping the alerts that matter. This can reduce interruptions without preventing an app from performing background tasks that you rely on.
Do not pair notification restrictions with background limits casually: the first controls what alerts you receive, while the second can affect whether and when an app updates. Test changes with important messaging, wearable, and tracking apps.

Keep Android and security updates current
Check Settings for “Software update” and install updates offered for your device. Samsung lists up to six OS upgrades and up to six years of security updates for the Galaxy A37; actual availability and timing vary by model and market, and update schedules may also vary by carrier. The Samsung product listing identifies the A37 with One UI 8.5 and an Android 16 manual, but the software installed on an individual phone may change over time.
Samsung also lists Knox Vault, described as EAL5+ certified on its UK product page, and private albums for organizing sensitive photos. These features do not replace reviewing app permissions or choosing what appears on the lock screen. Check lock-screen notification settings if you want to prevent message content from appearing while the phone is locked.

What to expect from the A37 battery
Samsung specifies a 5,000 mAh typical battery and support for Super Fast Charging 2.0. Its UK product-page estimate was based on a pre-release SM-A376 in the UK using LTE and 5G Sub6 networks from 8–18 January 2026; Samsung says that test did not use 5G mmWave. The company cautions that actual battery life varies with network environment, features and apps used, call and message frequency, charge history, and other factors. No single setting guarantees a particular runtime.
Samsung lists a screen protector as a separately sold accessory; if you choose one, confirm that the listing specifically fits the Galaxy A37. Accessory availability varies by region or carrier.
