The Galaxy A37 5G is the stronger choice if its price is close to the Galaxy A36 5G: it brings a newer processor, updated camera processing, Android 16 and One UI 8.5 at launch, and an IP68 rating. The A36 is the better value when it costs substantially less, since the two share a 5,000mAh battery, up to 45W wired charging, a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, and the same listed rear-camera resolutions.
Prices, available configurations, carrier compatibility, and software updates vary by market. Compare current local offers rather than treating the A37’s US launch price as a current price comparison.
What changed between the Galaxy A37 5G and A36 5G?
The A37’s most meaningful differences are its processor, camera hardware and processing, software starting point, and water- and dust-resistance rating. The headline display size, battery capacity, charging ceiling, and rear-camera resolution labels are largely shared.

Samsung Electronics Indonesia reported CPU performance up to 14% higher, GPU performance up to 24% higher, and NPU performance up to 167% higher for the A37 versus A36 in its 2026 comparison. | Water and dust resistance | IP68 | IP67 | The A37 has the higher rating. Samsung Indonesia describes the ratings as up to 1.5m and 1m, respectively, in fresh water for 30 minutes. Neither rating makes a phone waterproof. |
| Display | 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED, up to 120Hz | 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED | Both have a large OLED screen. The cited A36 material does not establish a separate refresh-rate figure, so do not assume it is identical on that basis. |

Is the Galaxy A37 faster?
Samsung’s 2026 comparison attributes the A37’s performance gains to its Exynos 1480 platform, reporting up to 14% higher CPU, 24% higher GPU, and 167% higher NPU performance than the A36. The NPU figure concerns AI-related processing; it should not be read as a promise that every app or task will feel dramatically faster. These percentages are Samsung-reported comparisons, not independent lab measurements.

Samsung presents those changes as improvements to detail and low-light photography, including Nightography. That is the manufacturer’s claim; the cited information does not include independent camera testing establishing how much better the A37’s photos or videos look in practice.
Does the A37 have better battery life?
The official materials cited for this comparison list a 5,000mAh typical battery and up to 45W wired charging for both phones. They do not establish a battery-capacity or peak-wattage advantage for the A37, nor do they provide a like-for-like battery-life test. Actual endurance can vary with network, settings, software, and use.

What the IP68 rating does—and does not—mean
Samsung Indonesia describes the A37’s IP68 rating as protection in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for 30 minutes, compared with up to 1 meter for 30 minutes for the A36’s IP67 rating. These are rating conditions, not a guarantee that either phone is waterproof or safe from every liquid, depth, or exposure. Water resistance can also be affected by wear or damage.

How long will each phone get software support?
Samsung’s 2026 global launch statement promises up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and up to six years of security updates for the A37. Samsung also advertised six OS upgrades and six years of security updates for the A36. Samsung says timing varies by device and market, and that the support period is counted from the supported device’s first global launch.

Because the A37 is the newer model, it begins that support timeline later. If you intend to keep a phone for years, this is a meaningful distinction, but the headline support promises alone do not specify when every update will reach every regional variant. Verify current update status for the exact model you plan to buy.

Which phone should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy A37 5G if:
- Its current local price is close to the A36’s.
- You want the newer Exynos processor and later software starting point.
- You value the higher IP68 rating.
- You expect to keep the phone longer and want the newer support timeline.
- You are interested in Samsung’s camera-processing and sensor updates, while recognizing that their real-world benefit has not been established by independent testing here.
Choose the Galaxy A36 5G if:
- It is meaningfully cheaper in your market.
- Your priorities are a large AMOLED display, 5,000mAh battery, up to 45W wired charging, and the established triple-camera layout.
- You do not need the A37’s processor, IP68 rating, or newer software baseline enough to justify the price difference.
Samsung announced a US starting price of $449.99 for the A37 and US availability beginning April 9, 2026. That is a launch price, not a current street price or a direct comparison with the A36; check current local prices, storage options, and carrier compatibility before deciding.
Should you upgrade from the A36 to the A37?
An A36 owner does not need to upgrade automatically. The move is most compelling if you specifically want IP68, the newer processor, or the A37’s camera-processing updates. Otherwise, compare the cost after any trade-in with how much useful life remains in your A36; the shared battery capacity, charging ceiling, and camera-resolution labels make the upgrade less compelling if those are your main concerns.
