The Samsung Galaxy A36 5G is a sensible midrange choice if you value a large AMOLED display, IP67 protection and long software support more than top-tier speed or dependable low-light photography. Its 5,000mAh battery and 45W wired charging are useful upgrades, but reviewers disagree on how long the battery lasts, and the phone’s value depends on its current price against rivals such as the Nothing Phone (3a), Motorola Edge 50 Neo and Poco X7 Pro.
What the Galaxy A36 5G offers
Samsung’s UK listing specifies a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, IP67 dust and water resistance, and options ranging from 6GB to 12GB of memory and 128GB to 256GB of storage. Samsung also promises six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates; the UK product page lists security support through 31 March 2031. These configurations and support details come from a UK listing, so check the product page for your market before buying. Samsung UK
For its reviewed model, GSMArena lists a 120Hz display at 1,080 × 2,340 resolution, a 12MP selfie camera, and a rear camera system made up of a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), an 8MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro camera. The phone has a 5,000mAh battery and supports up to 45W wired charging. A macro camera gives you a close-up shooting option; it is not a telephoto camera for optical zoom. GSMArena’s review

Where the Galaxy A36 is strongest
Long support and everyday durability
The six OS generations and six years of security updates make the A36 a more credible long-term purchase than a phone whose update commitment is short or unclear. Samsung’s UK page gives a specific security-update end date of 31 March 2031; that date and the listed configurations should not be assumed to apply identically in other markets. The IP67 rating adds dust protection and resistance to water immersion under the applicable rating conditions, but it is not a guarantee against all water damage. Samsung UK specifications
A bright, smooth screen
The 120Hz panel supports smoother scrolling than a standard 60Hz display, and GSMArena measured 1,233 nits in its maximum automatic-brightness test and 433 nits at maximum manual brightness. Those are reviewer measurements under different settings. GSMArena also reports Samsung’s claims of 1,200 nits in high-brightness mode and 1,900 nits peak brightness; those manufacturer figures are not interchangeable with the review’s measurements. GSMArena display tests
Faster wired charging than before
Maximum charging speed is 45W, but GSMArena says reaching it requires a compatible USB Power Delivery charger and a USB-C cable rated for 5A. Check the box contents for your market rather than assuming a suitable charger is included. GSMArena’s review

What to consider before buying
Performance is midrange
Notebookcheck found the performance improvement over the Galaxy A35 barely noticeable and reported occasional stutter during everyday use. Tech Advisor and Tom’s Guide also criticized performance. That does not mean every owner will see the same behavior, but it is a reason to compare the A36 with other phones at its actual local price—especially if you play demanding games or expect a particularly responsive experience. Notebookcheck, Tech Advisor, Tom’s Guide
Three rear cameras do not guarantee versatility in every situation
The camera hardware covers standard, ultrawide and macro perspectives, but Tom’s Guide criticized low-light results. Do not judge image quality by the main camera’s 50MP figure alone, and do not count the macro camera as a substitute for optical zoom. Tom’s Guide review
Battery endurance depends on how it is tested
Tech Advisor described battery life as two days in its review, while GSMArena called it adequate but not class-leading. Those are different review assessments, not a promise of two-day use for every owner. Screen brightness and refresh rate, workload, mobile signal and other usage conditions affect endurance. Display impressions are not unanimous
Tom’s Guide judged the screen less favorably against competing AMOLED displays, while GSMArena’s brightness test recorded strong automatic-mode results. The measured brightness helps describe one aspect of the screen; it does not settle subjective differences in color, contrast or overall viewing preference. Tom’s Guide, GSMArena display tests

There is no single best-buy verdict without a current local price and regional model comparison. The review prices and merchant listings cited by 2025 coverage are historical, not evidence of what the A36 costs or whether it is in stock now. Compare unlocked and carrier prices for the exact memory and storage configuration available to you.
GSMArena names the Nothing Phone (3a) and Motorola Edge 50 Neo as alternatives; Notebookcheck also points to the Poco X7 Pro. Compare them on the factors that matter to your use:
- Speed: Look for performance tests and reviews relevant to your everyday apps and games.
- Cameras: Check low-light results and camera options, not just megapixel counts.
- Screen: Consider brightness, refresh rate and the way you find the display looks.
- Power: Compare independent battery assessments and charging requirements.
- Protection and support: Check ingress-protection ratings and the update commitment for your exact market.
- Total price: Compare current prices for equivalent configurations, including any carrier conditions.
The A36 makes most sense when its long support, IP67 rating and large 120Hz AMOLED display matter more to you than stronger performance or better low-light camera results—and its current price is competitive with those alternatives. If you prioritize gaming speed or night photography, a rival may suit you better, depending on the price and model available locally. GSMArena’s alternatives, Notebookcheck’s alternatives
