The Samsung Galaxy A35 5G is the more compelling fit if you want an AMOLED display, a longer announced software-support commitment and an IP67 rating. Motorola’s moto g max makes a different case with a larger 7,000mAh battery, a slightly larger LCD screen and 30W charging. There is no reliable same-country, current price comparison here: Samsung’s cited $399.99 price was its U.S. launch price in 2024, while Motorola’s specification information is for India.

At a glance: Galaxy A35 5G vs. moto g max

The two phones share a 120Hz display refresh rate, 50MP main cameras and 5G support, but differ in display technology, battery capacity, ingress protection and published update commitments. The table uses manufacturer specifications; regional configurations may differ, and it is not a controlled performance or camera test.

Which phone has the better screen?

The Galaxy A35 uses a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED panel; the moto g max has a slightly larger 6.72-inch LCD. Both are listed at 120Hz. AMOLED and LCD are different display technologies, but the specifications alone do not establish which screen looks better in real use. Choose the A35 if AMOLED is your priority; consider the Moto if you prefer the larger stated diagonal.

Battery capacity and charging: the Moto has the larger number

Motorola lists a 7,000mAh battery and 30W TurboPower charging, compared with the A35’s 5,000mAh typical capacity and support for up to 25W charging. Motorola’s “up to 63 hours” figure is a manufacturer estimate, not an independently verified comparison with the A35. Capacity and charging ratings do not establish real-world runtime or charging time; those depend on use and conditions.

Samsung says the A35 battery’s 5,000mAh figure is typical, with a rated minimum capacity of 4,905mAh. Its battery-life estimate was assessed by UX Connect Research in the UK from January 11 to January 20, 2024, on prerelease A35 units using default settings and LTE/5G Sub6; mmWave was not tested. That test is not directly comparable to Motorola’s stated estimate.

Durability: IP67 and IP64 are not equivalent

Samsung rates the Galaxy A35 IP67 and says its lab-tested protection covers submersion in up to 1m of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Samsung cautions that the phone is not advised for beach or pool use. Motorola lists the moto g max as IP64 water resistant and also lists MIL-STD-810H. These are different claims and should not be collapsed into a general promise that either phone is waterproof or indestructible.

Software support and Android versions

Samsung announced up to four generations of Android/One UI upgrades and five years of security updates for the A35. Motorola lists two OS upgrades and three years of security maintenance releases for the moto g max. These are announced or listed policies, not guarantees that both devices are currently receiving updates on the same schedule; confirm current support status for the exact market and variant before buying.

The A35 launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1, while Motorola’s India support page lists Android 16 for the moto g max. A launch version and a current listed version are different kinds of information, so they should not be read as a direct comparison of what each phone will run after setup today.

Camera hardware: what the specifications do and do not tell you

Samsung lists a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), an 8MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro camera. Motorola lists a 50MP Sony LYTIA 600 main camera and an 8MP ultrawide. The A35’s listed OIS and extra macro camera are hardware distinctions; megapixel counts alone do not show which phone takes better photos, and no verified head-to-head camera test is available here.

Storage, connectivity and handling

Storage and memory vary by market

The U.S. Samsung announcement lists the A35 with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, while Samsung’s UK specification page includes 128GB and 256GB options and microSD expansion up to 1TB. Motorola’s India page lists 6GB LPDDR5X RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage for the moto g max. These listings do not guarantee that every configuration is sold in every country. Check the exact regional model; Samsung says a microSD card is sold separately.

Network and everyday features

Both phones support 5G, but the word “5G” does not prove compatibility with a particular carrier. Motorola lists sub-6 5G bands, stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack and no NFC. Verify supported bands, carrier certification and feature availability for the specific model in your country before purchase.

Size and weight

The A35 is 209g and the moto g max is 213g. The Moto is longer and thicker on the listed dimensions, while the Samsung is wider. Both are large phones; dimensions may matter more than the small weight difference if you prefer a compact grip.

Price difference: no fair current comparison is established

Samsung announced a U.S. starting price of $399.99 for the Galaxy A35 in 2024. That is a historical launch price, not a current retail quote. The moto g max specification source is Motorola’s India support page, and the available information does not establish a matched-market, current price for either phone. A price gap should not be inferred by comparing those different contexts.

For a useful local comparison, check both exact variants from retailers in the same country and compare either unlocked prices or equivalent carrier terms. Prices, availability and regional configurations can change.

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose the Galaxy A35 5G if you value a Super AMOLED display, Samsung’s announced longer update policy, IP67-rated protection, or the listed OIS-equipped main camera.
  • Consider the moto g max if its larger stated battery, 30W charging, slightly larger LCD or listed headphone jack and stereo speakers match your priorities—and the exact model is available and compatible in your market.
  • Do not decide on price or battery life from headline figures alone. The available price contexts are not matched, and Motorola’s runtime figure is a manufacturer estimate rather than an independent comparison.
