If the Galaxy A16 5G and Galaxy A15 5G cost about the same for the storage and carrier version you want, choose the A16: Samsung documents longer-term software support and an IP54 rating for it. If the A15 is meaningfully cheaper, its lower price may make it the better value—but compare matching configurations and check the current offer. Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP sheet is dated guidance, not a live quote.

Why the A16 is the better default at similar prices
Longer documented support
Samsung Electronics’ 2026 interim report says the Galaxy A16 5G “Supports 6 OS updates and 6 years of SMR updates.” That is the clearest reason to favor the A16 when prices are close: a longer stated support window can make it a more suitable choice if you intend to keep your phone for several years. The cited sources do not establish an equivalent commitment for the A15, so do not assume the two have the same support timeline.

Samsung also lists an IP54 rating for the A16 5G. That indicates limited protection against dust and water splashes; it does not mean the phone is waterproof or safe to submerge. The statement comes from Samsung, not an independent durability test. Do not extend the A16’s rating to the A15: a comparable A15 rating was not established in the cited sources.

When the A15 is the better buy
The A15 can be the sensible choice if its actual price is substantially lower and its storage and carrier configuration meet your needs. The amount you save is more useful than a dated MSRP comparison, so check current offers rather than treating Samsung’s listed prices as retail deals. Also weigh the lower price against your need for a clearly documented support commitment and an established ingress-protection rating.
What the comparison does—and does not—show about the screen and cameras
Tech Advisor’s February 2025 comparison describes the A16 as having a larger display and thinner design, while characterizing the two phones’ camera setups as similar. That supports a modest screen-size and design advantage for the A16, not a claim that it is a substantial camera upgrade.

The cited material does not establish a complete, primary-source US specification comparison for display dimensions or brightness, chipset, camera performance, battery endurance, or charging. Those details can vary by region or model version, so confirm the exact US SKU’s specifications if one of them will decide your purchase rather than relying on figures for an international variant.

Samsung’s current US Galaxy A-series page includes the newer Galaxy A17 5G. A practical buying checklist
- Choose the configuration first. Match storage capacity, unlocked or carrier-specific status, and carrier compatibility before comparing prices.
- Check live prices. Compare current retailer offers for those exact configurations; Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP sheet is only dated reference information.
- Decide how long you plan to keep the phone. The A16 has Samsung’s stated six OS updates and six years of security maintenance releases; an equivalent A15 commitment was not established in the cited sources.
- Account for water and dust exposure. Samsung lists IP54 for the A16, which means limited dust and splash resistance, not waterproofing. Do not assume the A15 has the same rating.
- Check the newer alternative. Compare the current A17 5G offer and verified specifications before purchasing an A16 or A15.
