Only certain Samsung refrigerator and upright-freezer models can convert a freezer compartment into a fridge. The controls and available modes vary by model and region, so check your appliance’s exact model number and user manual before changing any settings. Simply raising the temperature on an ordinary freezer does not convert it into a refrigerator.
Can your Samsung freezer become a fridge?
Samsung says some top-freezer refrigerators and upright freezers support changing the freezer compartment into a fridge compartment. The feature is not available on every Samsung freezer. Start by locating the model number on your appliance and checking its manual for a convertible-compartment feature and its supported modes. Samsung’s temperature-setting guide explains that controls vary by model and directs owners to their user manual.
Also check the documentation for your country or region: feature availability, mode names, and control-panel instructions can differ. If the manual does not describe a conversion function for your model, do not assume that changing the freezer temperature will make it suitable for refrigerated food.

What to do before switching modes
- Move frozen or chilled food to appropriate storage before changing the compartment’s mode. Samsung warns that frozen items may thaw when switching to Fridge and chilled items may freeze when switching back to Freezer.
- Do not leave food in a compartment set to Off. Samsung India warns that, for its documented Freezer Convert system, Off mode is not cold enough to prevent spoilage.
- Keep the doors closed while the compartment cools or warms to its new setting, then check the actual temperature before relying on it for food storage.
How to change a Samsung freezer to fridge mode
Use the sequence for your exact model; these examples are not interchangeable instructions.

US convertible models covered by Samsung’s guide
For the convertible model described in Samsung US’s convertible-refrigerator instructions, press and hold Temp for three seconds to toggle between Fridge and Freezer modes. Use this only if your model’s manual identifies the same control and feature.
Samsung India top-mount models covered by Samsung’s instructions
For the top-mount models described in Samsung India’s Freezer Convert instructions, press and hold Freezer Convert for three seconds to enter selection mode, then cycle through the available modes. Samsung says the change activates after ten seconds. Follow your model’s manual if its panel or instructions differ.

Set and verify a safe refrigerator temperature
Temperature ranges depend on the model and the purpose of the guidance. Samsung US lists 34–44°F for Fridge mode on the convertible model covered by its guide, with a default of 37°F. Separately, Samsung Canada identifies 3°C (38°F) as its ideal refrigerator setting and cites Health Canada’s recommendation to keep refrigerated food below 4°C (40°F). Those general food-storage figures do not expand the temperature range supported by a particular convertible model.
A displayed setting does not mean the compartment has already reached that temperature. Samsung Canada says the interior can take up to 28 hours to stabilize with the doors closed. To check a fridge temperature, Samsung recommends placing a thermometer in a glass of water in the center of the compartment and checking it after eight hours without frequent door opening. A thermometer verifies temperature; it does not enable conversion or certify food safety.

Capacity and energy claims depend on the model
There is no single added-capacity figure or conversion energy-saving estimate that applies to all Samsung freezers. Samsung India’s 2020 catalog claims up to 88 L of additional fridge space for the specific model RT37M3724SL. The catalog’s energy statement is also tied to named models and Samsung’s internal test conditions, so it should not be treated as a general prediction for another appliance.

If the manual does not list a Fridge or convertible mode, do not try to create one by changing the freezer’s temperature alone. Use the appliance as its manufacturer specifies; if you need more refrigerated storage, consider a refrigerator designed for that purpose.
