If your Galaxy phone charges more slowly than expected, check Fast charging first. On supported models, turning it on can restore fast charging when the setting is disabled—but it is only one possible cause. Samsung’s U.S. troubleshooting guidance lists the path as Settings > Battery > Charging settings; menu names and availability vary by model and software version. Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guide has the current steps.
Turn on Fast charging
- Open Settings > Battery > Charging settings.
- Turn on Fast charging, if the option is available.
- Reconnect the charger and check whether the phone indicates fast charging. The feature must be supported by both the phone and charging setup.
On Galaxy S23 series, Samsung says the previous Fast charging and Super fast charging options are combined into one Fast charging switch. Older models or different software versions may show different names or menus. Samsung’s U.S. guidance
If charging stops at 80% or 85%, check Battery protection
A phone that charges slowly is different from one that reaches a selected percentage and stops. For a charging ceiling, open Settings > Battery > Battery protection and review the mode or limit. Battery protection can restrict the maximum charge level; changing the mode or turning protection off can allow the phone to charge further. Options differ by model and software version. That limit is intended to help manage battery health. Decide whether a higher charge endpoint is worth changing the protection behavior for your use; there is no need to disable it simply because charging seems slow.

Check the charger, cable, and connection
- Use a charger and cable compatible with the exact Galaxy model. A damaged or incompatible accessory can slow or interrupt charging, and a fast-charging setting cannot make unsupported hardware charge faster. Samsung’s troubleshooting guide recommends compatible accessories.
- Do not expect fast charging through a PC or standard USB device. Samsung notes that fast charging may not work with those connections. Source: Samsung
- If the cable or adapter is visibly damaged, stop using it and try a compatible replacement rather than treating the setting as the only likely cause.
Rule out temperature, debris, and moisture
- If the phone is hot, disconnect it if needed and let it cool before trying again. Samsung warns that high device temperature can temporarily stop charging or reduce charging speed. Samsung’s guidance
- Check the charging port for visible debris. Do not insert metal objects or liquids to clean it.
- If a moisture-detection alert appears, follow the phone’s instructions and wait until the port is safe to use before reconnecting the charger. Moisture detection can prevent charging. Samsung’s troubleshooting guide
If the phone still charges slowly
After checking the setting, charge limit, accessories, temperature, and port, run Samsung’s Cable charging diagnostic in the Samsung Members app if it is available on your device. Samsung recommends diagnostics or support when basic troubleshooting does not resolve the issue; persistent charging problems may need service inspection. Samsung’s troubleshooting instructions
