You may not need another art subscription or a new TV to display artwork. First check the screen-saver or ambient-display features on your current television: Google TV and Android TV offer curated art and personal-photo options, while Samsung provides free Art Store selections and personal-photo display on supported models. If those do not fit, consider an eligible Fire TV device or a TV app such as WindowSight.
Choose an alternative based on what you want to change
“Alternative” can mean avoiding a paid catalog, showing your own photos, using a non-Samsung television, or getting an art-focused display beyond a basic screensaver. These are different needs. Start with the TV you already own, then check whether its feature offers curated artwork, personal images, useful rotation controls, and any art-specific behavior you want.
- To avoid paying: Check for free built-in art or personal-photo features before subscribing to a catalog.
- To display your own images: Look for Google Photos, Samsung personal-photo tools, or another photo source supported by the TV.
- To use a non-Samsung TV: Check its Google TV, Android TV, or eligible Fire TV features; an app may also be available for the platform.
- To get a frame-like experience: Confirm that the exact model supports the relevant art mode and its features. A standard screensaver is not necessarily equivalent.
Compatibility and availability vary by TV model, operating system, country, and sometimes model year. Confirm those details before choosing an app or device.
Compare the main ways to display art

Try the free features on your current TV
Google TV
- Open Settings → System → Ambient mode.
- Under Source, choose Google Photos, Art Gallery, or Custom AI Art, depending on what the device offers.
- For Google Photos, select albums and adjust slideshow speed in the available Google Photos settings.
Google says dynamic slideshows are available only on eligible Google TV devices globally with at least 2 GB of RAM. If a choice shown in Google’s instructions is missing, the feature may not be supported by that device.

Android TV
- In the Google Home app, open the device settings and choose Ambient mode.
- Select Google Photos or Art Gallery if available.
- If the setting does not take effect, check the television’s own screen-saver settings; Google notes that options vary by TV.
Samsung TVs
Open the TV’s Art section or Art Store and check which free streams and personal-photo tools are available. Samsung UK describes Art Store Streams as 30 artworks per month, with each artwork displayed for five minutes before rotation. Availability varies by country and model, and Samsung says premium catalog access may require a subscription. Samsung also describes a broader Art Store catalog of more than 5,000 works; these are Samsung’s stated figures, not independently audited counts.
Do not assume every Samsung television has Art Mode. Samsung’s US support page says it is available on The Frame TVs and OLED S95H, with availability varying by model year and region. Samsung describes Art Mode with light adjustment and motion sensing as a feature of selected Art TVs; a basic screensaver should not be treated as identical.

Fire TV
- Open Settings → Display & Audio.
- Check whether Ambient Experience appears and is available on your device.
- If you are looking for timeout controls, consult Amazon’s instructions for your exact model; the cited instructions cover Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation), not every Fire TV device.
WindowSight
Search for WindowSight in Google Play or your TV’s app store and confirm that the app is offered for your specific device and region before relying on it. Its Google Play listing describes TV browsing and a library of more than 6,000 artworks, but that listing does not establish support for every television or streaming platform.

When a separate device or paid catalog makes sense
Consider buying a streaming device only if your TV does not offer a suitable built-in feature and the new device supports the art experience you want. Before purchasing, check the device’s exact Ambient Experience eligibility, the TV’s available input, and current availability in your country. A streaming device adds a route to display art; it does not make every television’s screen or art behavior equivalent to a dedicated art TV.

If a free built-in feature already shows the images you want, a separate catalog subscription may add little. If you want a larger curated selection, compare the catalog and access terms shown for your country and model rather than relying on a headline library count alone.
