Samsung and SEGA announced a Sonic the Hedgehog-themed edition of Samsung’s PRO Plus microSD cards on January 27, 2025. The four designs pair Knuckles with 128GB, Tails with 256GB, Sonic with 512GB and Shadow with 1TB. Samsung’s stated top speeds are up to 180 MB/s read and 130 MB/s write across the product family—not a claim that one character edition is faster than another.
Which character design comes with each capacity?
The character artwork identifies the card’s capacity. Samsung’s January 2025 launch announcement listed these four microSDXC variants:
| Character | Capacity | Launch MSRP |
|---|---|---|
| Knuckles | 128GB | $23.99 |
| Tails | 256GB | $36.99 |
| Sonic | 512GB | $68.99 |
| Shadow | 1TB | $125.99 |
These are historical US launch MSRPs announced by Samsung, not current price quotes. Prices and stock can change; check the selected capacity and seller for current terms. Samsung’s January 27, 2025 announcement said the cards would be sold through Samsung.com and selected retailers. Samsung’s US product pages may show time- and location-sensitive pricing or delivery information.
How fast are the cards?
Samsung specifies sequential speeds of up to 180 MB/s read and up to 130 MB/s write. It also lists U3, V30, A2 and Class 10 ratings. These are family-level manufacturer specifications, not guaranteed transfer rates: Samsung says actual speeds vary with usage, the host device, interface and test conditions. The launch information does not establish a speed difference among the four character designs.

The cards use the microSDXC form factor and a UHS-I interface, according to Samsung’s launch specifications. A compatible host is still necessary to use a card’s capacity and achieve its available speed; check the device maker’s documentation for supported card format, maximum capacity and interface.
What can the 1TB Shadow card hold?
Samsung illustrates the 1TB capacity as enough for more than 47 hours of 4K UHD video, more than 437,000 4K UHD images, or more than 45 games averaging 20GB each. These are Samsung estimates based on its stated assumptions about video, image sizes and a Nintendo Switch game test, not universal storage guarantees. Actual usable space and the number of files or games depend on file sizes, formatting and device requirements.

Which devices are they intended for?
Samsung lists handheld game consoles, smartphones, tablets, action cameras and drones as compatible device categories. Compatibility is not automatic for every model: confirm that the device supports microSDXC and the intended capacity. Samsung’s US product pages list an SD adapter included with the card, which can help use it in a full-size SD slot; the host still needs to support the card and its capacity.
What durability and warranty claims does Samsung make?
Samsung describes the cards as resistant to water, high temperatures, X-rays, magnetic fields, drops and wear, and lists a limited 10-year warranty. These are manufacturer claims. Check Samsung’s warranty terms for applicable conditions and exclusions; no independent durability testing is represented here.

Is the Sonic X Shadow Generations offer still available?
No. Samsung’s launch announcement described a promotion running from January 27 through February 27, 2025. Purchasers could receive an automatic sweepstakes entry, and a no-purchase entry route was also offered; prizes were 200 digital Steam codes for Sonic X Shadow Generations. That promotion has ended.
