Salesforce code can work in one org and fail in another when the destination differs in metadata, installed packages, permissions, configuration, or Apex version settings. Diagnose the target org as its own environment: capture the exact error, compare dependencies and security context, verify the deployment contents, then run tests in a representative destination before production.
Why Salesforce code behaves differently between orgs
Required metadata or packages are missing
Apex may refer to objects, fields, permissions, preferences, or package components that exist in the development org but not in the destination. Salesforce defines package dependencies to include required components, permissions, and preferences; installation can fail when the target does not meet those requirements. See Salesforce’s package dependency guidance.
Apex or managed-package versions differ
Salesforce saves API version settings for Apex classes and triggers, as well as versions for managed packages they reference. These settings help preserve behavior as APIs and packages evolve, so compare them rather than assuming both orgs execute the same revisions. See Manage Version Settings for Apex.
One important version boundary affects database security behavior: Salesforce documentation says Apex API version 67.0 and later defaults database operations to user context, while version 66.0 and earlier defaults to system mode. User context enforces the running user’s permissions and field-level security, so a version difference or different user access can change what succeeds. See Salesforce’s Apex overview.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Permissions and org configuration are not equivalent
Check the actual user running the code and that user’s object and field access. Also compare org preferences and configuration the code expects. Deploying code does not automatically make user assignments or org settings identical.
The deployment moved metadata, but not everything the code needs
Salesforce supports several metadata deployment paths, including change sets and Metadata API-based workflows. But metadata deployment does not make the destination’s data equivalent: Salesforce states that data cannot be packaged. Unmanaged packages also add new items but cannot modify existing target items. How to troubleshoot a cross-org failure
- Capture the failure precisely. Record the full exception or deployment message, target org, running user, and whether the problem occurs during compilation, tests, package installation, or runtime.
- Compare version settings. Inspect the Apex class or trigger API version and versions of referenced managed packages. Pay particular attention to the API 67.0 execution-context boundary.
- Map the dependencies. List every referenced object, field, permission, preference, package component, and related metadata item. Confirm each exists in the destination and satisfies package requirements.
- Reproduce with the relevant security context. Test as the user who experiences the issue, then inspect object and field access. For Apex API 67.0 and later, verify that the user has access required by database operations running in user context.
- Inspect the deployment artifact and route. Confirm the artifact contains the required metadata and that the method supports the component types involved. Treat required records and other data separately because packages do not carry data.
- Run tests in a representative destination. Validate in a sandbox, staging org, or other environment that reflects the destination before production. Salesforce’s Metadata API release guidance recommends local testing and staged release testing.
Choose a deployment workflow that exposes differences
Change sets are intended for connected orgs; other documented routes include Metadata API workflows such as Salesforce CLI and VS Code extensions, as well as the Ant Migration Tool. Compare options against the components you need to move, how clearly they expose dependencies and target differences, whether releases are repeatable and source-controlled, and how you will handle data separately. Salesforce advises checking the current support status of third-party tools before relying on them.

Salesforce states that production deployments require at least 75% Apex code coverage and that every trigger must have some test coverage. Treat these as deployment gates, not proof that the target org is equivalent: tests still need to exercise the relevant metadata, data assumptions, and user context.
