Build a team around the fight you need to win, not a supposedly universal “best” lineup. In Saint Seiya: Legend of Justice, start with a clear damage plan, enough durability to survive, and the control or support needed for the matchup; then consider elemental bonuses and formation placement. The official Google Play listing describes the game as a six-element formation RPG and says “there is no strongest knight but only stronger formation.”
How do I build a team in Saint Seiya: Legend of Justice?
Use your developed knights to answer the encounter’s main problem. A boss fight that lasts a long time, an enemy frontline that will not fall, and a dangerous opening attack call for different combinations. The sequence below is a practical framework, not an official formula.

- Identify the problem. Decide whether you need to survive attrition, break a frontline, interrupt an opening, or deliver dependable boss damage.
- Choose a damage plan. Include a way to defeat the opposing team; simply lasting longer is not enough if your lineup cannot convert survival into damage.
- Check whether the team can stay active. Add sufficient durability and, where needed, healing or protection so key knights can use their skills.
- Add matchup-specific help. Control, debuffs, buffs, or extra healing can buy time, weaken a target, or disrupt the opponent’s plan.
- Evaluate the elemental bonus. Take a useful formation bonus when it fits, but do not sacrifice an essential role or skill interaction just to maximize the displayed percentage.
- Place the knights and test the result. Put a suitably durable knight in the most exposed position, protect vulnerable units behind it, then adjust after seeing who takes damage and whether your plan works.
Think in terms of jobs the team must perform, not a rigid requirement that five knights each fill one separate slot. A single knight’s abilities may contribute to more than one job.

Which roles should I put in front and back?
The English Google Play listing uses four knight types: Protector, Warrior, Assassin, and Skilled. AppMedia’s Japanese formation guide uses a localized five-category vocabulary that includes defense, attack, assist, and technique roles, among others. These labels are not a one-to-one translation, so use the descriptions of what a knight does in battle rather than assuming the category names align exactly.

Cover the jobs your lineup needs
- Damage: A reliable way to defeat enemies. A damage dealer may be vulnerable, so consider what keeps it alive long enough to act.
- Durability: A way to absorb or reduce pressure and protect less durable teammates.
- Disruption or control: Crowd control and stat debuffs can interfere with enemy actions or make targets easier to defeat.
- Support or healing: Healing, buffs, and debuffs can help the team survive or make its damage plan more effective.
This checklist is deliberately flexible. A team made only of damage dealers can be too fragile, while a team made only of tanks may struggle to finish a fight. Skills can cover overlapping jobs, so judge the whole lineup rather than counting one character per category. These role principles are also described in Pocket Gamer’s December 22, 2022 team guide; its general concepts are more useful here than its dated example lineups.
Use position 1 as a durability check
AppMedia’s August 13, 2025 formation guide describes defense- and attack-oriented types as generally front-oriented, with assist and technique types generally rear-oriented, while noting exceptions. It also reports that position 1 commonly draws the default incoming target. That makes a durable lead a sensible starting experiment, not a fixed rule: skills and matchups can change which position is safest or most useful.
Place vulnerable supports or damage dealers behind protection when possible. If the front knight falls too quickly, or an important rear unit is being targeted or disabled, change positions and observe whether the new arrangement buys the team more time to execute its plan.

How do skill synergies make a formation stronger?
Look for what one knight enables another to do. Synergy can come from control, buffs or debuffs, healing, damage amplification, target selection, or the timing of skills. A control effect may buy time for a setup skill; a debuff may help a damage dealer finish a target; support may keep a fragile carry in the fight; and an opening effect may interrupt the opponent before its plan gets going.
The official listing points to attribute restraint and control skills as strategic factors. Those are reasons to consider matchup and skill interaction alongside elemental composition, not proof that any one combination is best in every mode.
Advanced players may also consider opening actions and acceleration interactions. Codex’s 2026 combat-engine analysis discusses such interactions, but some explanations are hypotheses and the analysis notes a June 24, 2026 change. Treat timing details as version-sensitive observations, not universal rules; verify them in your current client before building a team around them.

What elemental formation bonuses are reported?
The game’s official English listing names Water, Fire, Air, Earth, Light, and Darkness. AppMedia reports the following attack and HP bonuses for these lineup patterns:

These are mechanic values reported by a third-party guide, not player win-rate statistics or official rules documentation. AppMedia also says Light and Dark knights can count flexibly toward elemental formation conditions. Check the bonus indicator shown by your current game client, since it is the most direct way to confirm what your version is applying.
A larger percentage is not automatically the better team. Compare the bonus with what you give up: a missing control effect, weaker protection, a less reliable damage plan, or a lost skill interaction may matter more in that battle than extra attack or HP.

What is the best team formation?
There is no evidence-based universal lineup for every player, region, roster, and mode. A team recommendation is only useful when its assumptions match your situation: which knights you own and have developed, what the encounter demands, and which client version and regional roster you have.
A March 24, 2026 Codex article offers CN-server examples for five-team planning—Hades, Ice, Endurance, Burst, and Milo teams—and adds Fire and Rush teams for a seven-team setup. Its named lineups include knights such as Hades, Minos, Eaque, Poseidon, Mu God Cloth, Ox, Camus God Cloth, Hyoga God Cloth, Shun God Cloth, Shiryu God Cloth, Asmita, Ophiuchus, Athena Goddess of War, Shaka Arayashiki, Artemis, Hecate, Shijima, Apollon, Ikki God Cloth, and Milo God Cloth. These are examples from one advanced player’s CN assessment, not universal recommendations. Character arrival timing can differ by region, so a lineup that is possible on that server may not be available to you.
The Codex article also gives approximate comparisons involving win-rate changes, but does not provide enough sample or methodology detail to treat those estimates as established performance statistics. Use its team names as roster-planning examples, then apply the role, synergy, element, and positioning checks above to knights actually available to you.

How should I adapt a team for story, bosses, and PvP?
Keep the same decision process, but change the problem you are solving. A team that handles one mode well may need a different balance elsewhere; the sources do not establish one composition that dominates all modes.
- For a long or difficult fight: Check whether the frontline and support can keep key damage dealers active long enough to matter.
- Against a stubborn frontline: Prioritize a damage plan that can make progress against it; consider whether a debuff or control effect creates an opening.
- Against a dangerous opener: Consider control, protection, or skill timing that can blunt the opening sequence, while treating advanced timing interactions as version-dependent.
- When choosing between synergy and an element bonus: Keep the bonus only if the resulting lineup still has the roles and skill interactions the matchup requires.
After a battle, use the result to make a specific adjustment: if a key unit never acts, improve its protection or placement; if the team survives but cannot finish, strengthen its damage plan; if it loses control of the opening, look for a relevant interruption or defensive response. Change one meaningful part at a time so you can tell what improved the formation.
