Safe In Our World’s Four Billion Players campaign asks game developers, publishers and platform holders to make mental-health support easier for players to find. Launch coverage describes possible signposts—including launch screens, menu links, in-game events or items, and community spaces—but does not establish that these options have been widely adopted or proven effective.
What is the Four Billion Players campaign?
Four Billion Players is an awareness and signposting campaign from the gaming mental-health charity Safe In Our World. Its central idea is to put routes to support where players may encounter them, rather than relying on people to search for help independently. The campaign is directed at developers, publishers and platform holders.
The name refers to a projection that the global player base will exceed four billion by 2029, as reported in the campaign’s launch coverage. Those reports do not identify the projection’s original publisher or methodology, or define who counts as a player; it should therefore be understood as a figure cited by the coverage, not an independently verified count. GameDev.net’s 8 October 2026 report, credited to GamesIndustry.biz/Sophie McEvoy, and WN Hub’s coverage from the same date describe the campaign.
How could games make support easier to find?
Launch coverage gives several examples of where a game or its surrounding community could signpost support. They are suggested placements, not a universal design standard or evidence that each has been implemented.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
| Placement | Example described in launch coverage | Potential role |
|---|---|---|
| Launch screen | A splash or launch screen highlighting Safe In Our World | Make the charity visible when a game starts. |
| Game menu | A link to the charity’s free mental-health resources | Give players a route they can choose to follow from within the game. |
| In-game event or item | A charity-related event or item | Bring attention to the cause through game content. |
| Community space | Signposting in a game-related community | Place information where players gather and interact. |
The reports do not compare these placements for reach, usability, safety or effectiveness. They also do not provide evaluation data, a required implementation checklist or participation terms. The examples explain the campaign’s approach; they do not show that a particular placement improves mental-health outcomes.
What the campaign does—and does not—offer
The available launch coverage supports describing Four Billion Players as an effort to raise awareness and point people toward resources. It does not establish that the campaign itself provides clinical care, crisis response or emergency services. Nor does it specify regional availability, how organizations register to participate, or detailed safeguarding procedures.
