Als recent bekeken websites of links op de Safari-startpagina staan, open dan een nieuw tabblad en tik op Edit onderaan de pagina. Schakel vervolgens Frequently Visited of Suggestions uit, afhankelijk van wat je wilt verbergen. Zie je de items juist pas wanneer het zoekveld leeg is, schakel dan op iPhone Show Recent Searches uit via Instellingen > Apps > Safari. Die functies hebben elk een eigen instelling.
Controleer eerst waar de items verschijnen
De plek op het scherm bepaalt welke instelling je nodig hebt. Op de startpagina staan onderdelen zoals Frequently Visited en Suggestions. Recente zoekopdrachten die pas onder een leeg zoekveld verschijnen, zijn iets anders. Tijdens het typen kunnen bovendien zoeksuggesties verschijnen; op de Mac is daarvoor een aparte instelling.
- Op de startpagina: verberg het betreffende onderdeel via Edit.
- Onder een leeg zoekveld op iPhone: schakel Show Recent Searches uit.
- Tijdens zoeken op Mac: schakel desgewenst Include Safari Suggestions uit.
Apple omschrijft Frequently Visited op de Mac als websites die je vaak of onlangs hebt bezocht. Suggestions is breder: op iPhone kunnen daar ook links uit andere apps en gedeelde links onder vallen. (Apple: de Safari-startpagina aanpassen op iPhone; Apple: de Safari-startpagina aanpassen op Mac)

Suggesties of vaak bezochte websites op de startpagina
- Open Safari en maak een nieuw tabblad.
- Scrol omlaag naar de onderkant van de startpagina en tik op Edit.
- Schakel Suggestions uit om de voorgestelde websites en links te verbergen. Wil je de sectie met vaak of onlangs bezochte websites verbergen, schakel dan Frequently Visited uit als die optie wordt getoond.
In dezelfde editor kun je andere onderdelen afzonderlijk aan- of uitzetten, zoals Favorites, Privacy Report, Reading List, Recently Closed Tabs en iCloud Tabs. De optie voor suggesties is dus niet hetzelfde als die voor vaak bezochte websites. (Apple: de Safari-startpagina aanpassen op iPhone)

Recente zoekopdrachten onder een leeg zoekveld
Open Instellingen > Apps > Safari. Zoek onder Search naar Show Recent Searches en schakel die optie uit. Dit verbergt recente zoekopdrachten die onder een leeg zoekveld verschijnen; het verwijdert niet automatisch een onderdeel van de startpagina. (Apple: zoeken naar websites op iPhone)
Verberg onderdelen op iPad
Open een nieuw tabblad in Safari, scrol naar de onderkant van de startpagina en tik op Edit. Zet de onderdelen die je niet wilt zien uit. Apple noemt onder meer Suggestions, Frequently Visited, Recently Closed Tabs, iCloud Tabs en Reading List. Kies de optie die overeenkomt met de sectie op je scherm. Verberg onderdelen op Mac
Vaak bezochte websites of gedeelde links op de startpagina
- Kies in de menubalk Bookmarks > Show Start Page.
- Klik rechtsonder op Edit.
- Schakel Frequently Visited uit om vaak of onlangs bezochte websites te verbergen. Schakel Shared with You uit als je gedeelde links niet wilt zien.

Suggesties tijdens het zoeken of de startpagina zelf
Om Safari-suggesties bij zoeken uit te zetten, open Safari > Settings > Search en schakel Include Safari Suggestions uit. Deze instelling is iets anders dan het verbergen van onderdelen op de startpagina.
Wil je de startpagina zelf niet onder het Smart Search-veld zien, dan is er daarnaast de afzonderlijke optie Show Start Page. Gebruik die alleen als je de startpagina wilt verbergen; ze is niet bedoeld als vervanging voor het uitschakelen van een specifieke sectie. Wat als de instelling op je apparaat anders heet?
De weergegeven opties kunnen verschillen per besturingssysteemversie en taal. Zoek in de editor naar de naam van de sectie die je daadwerkelijk wilt verbergen, in plaats van een instelling met een vergelijkbare naam uit te schakelen. Op iPhone en iPad zit de startpagina-editor onderaan een nieuw tabblad; op Mac open je de startpagina via Bookmarks > Show Start Page.
Als Use Start Page on All Devices is ingeschakeld, kan Apple dezelfde startpagina-instellingen op gekoppelde apparaten gebruiken wanneer de benodigde Apple Account-, iCloud- en beveiligingsinstellingen aanwezig zijn.
