In June 2024, Slovenian retailer Funtech briefly listed AMD’s four announced Ryzen 9000 desktop processors from €309.90 to €659.90. Those were preliminary retailer prices reported by HotHardware—not prices confirmed by AMD, and not current prices.

What prices did the retailer list?

HotHardware reported on June 30, 2024, that Slovenia’s Funtech had listings for all four Ryzen 9000 desktop models AMD had announced earlier that month. The same report compared each listing with the European launch price of its Ryzen 7000 predecessor.

Ryzen 9000 model Funtech listing reported June 30, 2024 Ryzen 7000 predecessor’s European launch price
Ryzen 9 9950X €659.90 Ryzen 9 7950X — €849
Ryzen 9 9900X €499.90 Ryzen 9 7900X — €669
Ryzen 7 9700X €399.90 Ryzen 7 7700X — €479
Ryzen 5 9600X €309.90 Ryzen 5 7600X — €359

The figures in the second column are Funtech listing prices reported by HotHardware on June 30, 2024. The comparison figures are the predecessors’ European launch prices, not prices observed at the same time. Ryzen 7000 prices had already fallen after launch, HotHardware noted, so this comparison does not establish how the products compared at ordinary retail later on.

Were the Ryzen 9000 prices official?

No. The listing was an early snapshot from one retailer, not an AMD pricing announcement. TechSpot also described the figures as preliminary and cautioned that VAT could affect European prices. A Slovenian retailer’s listing should not be treated as a guaranteed price across Europe or in other markets. TechSpot’s June 2024 report covered those qualifications.

The pre-launch numbers did not remain uniform across retailer listings. In a later 2024 report, TechSpot described preliminary Best Buy listings with different dollar figures for higher-end models and noted that later European listings also differed. That later reporting shows the uncertainty around pre-launch listings; it does not change what Funtech was reported to have listed on June 30. TechSpot’s later report discusses those listings.

What processors had AMD announced?

AMD announced the initial Ryzen 9000 desktop lineup on June 2, 2024. The four Zen 5 processors use the AM5 socket. The specifications below are AMD’s launch-announcement figures, including maximum boost clocks and total cache. AMD’s announcement also identifies PCIe Gen 5 support.

What did AMD claim about Zen 5 performance?

AMD said Ryzen 9000 delivered an average 16% improvement in instructions per clock (IPC) over prior-generation Zen 4. This is AMD’s architecture-level claim, not an independent test result or a promise that every program runs 16% faster. AMD’s current desktop processor overview describes an approximately 16% single-thread IPC uplift for Ryzen 9000 and a 4 nm process.

AMD executive Jack Huynh called the series “the world’s most powerful desktop processors for gamers and creators.” That is AMD’s promotional characterization, not independent validation of performance.

How should readers interpret “wonderfully low”?

The phrase refers to the June 2024 comparison between Funtech’s preliminary listings and Ryzen 7000’s European launch prices. It does not establish that Ryzen 9000 was the best-value choice then, or that those amounts represent current deals. To judge a purchase today, compare current local prices, the cost of a compatible AM5 system, and performance for the intended workload; the historical leak cannot answer those questions.

Cooling requirements also vary by processor and build. AMD’s official Ryzen 9 9900X specifications say a thermal solution is not included and recommend liquid cooling for optimal performance. That guidance is model-specific; it should not be read as a requirement that every Ryzen 9000 buyer use the same cooler. AMD’s 9900X specifications list its AM5 socket and August 15, 2024 launch date. AMD said in its June 2024 announcement that AM5 support would continue through 2027 and beyond.
