For most budget gaming PCs, the Ryzen 5 7600 is the better starting point when it costs less: it has the same six-core, 12-thread Zen 4 design as the Ryzen 5 7600X and includes a Wraith Stealth cooler. The 7600X can be a little faster in games, but it costs more to cool because AMD does not include a cooler. Compare the price of each CPU plus any cooler you need before deciding; the 7600X makes more sense when that total is close or you already own a suitable cooler.
Ryzen 5 7600 vs. 7600X: key differences
Both processors use AMD’s AM5 socket, support DDR5 memory, and have six Zen 4 CPU cores, 12 threads, 32 MB of L3 cache, and integrated Radeon graphics. The main distinctions are clock speeds, default TDP, and included cooling.
| Specification | Ryzen 5 7600 | Ryzen 5 7600X |

Specifications are published by AMD for the Ryzen 5 7600 and AMD for the Ryzen 5 7600X. TDP is a rated specification, not a direct measurement of gaming power consumption.
How much faster is the 7600X in games?
In TechSpot’s 2023 gaming comparisons, the Ryzen 5 7600X was about 5% ahead of the Ryzen 5 7600. That result describes TechSpot’s tested games and system, not a guaranteed frame-rate increase in every title. The gap can vary with the game, graphics card, resolution, and test setup; when a game is limited by the graphics card, a CPU difference may be less noticeable.
#1 Best Overall
- The Socket AM5 socket allows processor to be placed on the PCB without soldering
- Ryzen 5 product line processor for your convenience and optimal usage
- 5 nm process technology for reliable performance with maximum productivity
- Hexa-core (6 Core) processor core helps processor process data in a dependable and timely manner with maximum productivity
- 6 MB L2 plus 32 MB L3 cache memory provides excellent hit rate in short access time enabling improved system performance
Tom’s Hardware found the Ryzen 5 7600 approaching parity with pricier X-series processors in its gaming, single-threaded, and multi-threaded tests after enabling auto-overclocking. That finding depends on the review’s configuration and is not evidence that the two processors perform identically at their default settings in every workload.
For the specific games you play, look for benchmarks that use a similar graphics card and resolution. A small average difference across one review suite may not translate into the same improvement in your own build.

- Pure gaming performance with smooth 100+ FPS in the world's most popular games
- 6 Cores and 12 processing threads, based on AMD "Zen 5" architecture
- 5.4 GHz Max Boost, unlocked for overclocking, 38 MB cache, DDR5-5600 support
- For the state-of-the-art Socket AM5 platform, can support PCIe 5.0 on select motherboards
- Cooler not included
Cooler cost can decide which CPU is the better value
The Ryzen 5 7600 includes AMD’s Wraith Stealth cooler. The 7600X does not include a thermal solution, and AMD says it needs a separately purchased cooler capable of dissipating at least 105W. AMD’s support bulletin states that Ryzen 7000 series processor boxes do not include a cooler or heatsink and that a cooling solution must be purchased independently; the 7600’s product listing separately specifies the included Wraith Stealth.
For a fair budget comparison, add the price of a compatible cooler to the 7600X if you do not already have one. Compare that total with the 7600’s CPU price, which includes a cooler, and check the current in-stock prices in your region. Prices and availability change, so there is no universal price winner.

- Pure gaming performance with smooth 100+ FPS in the world's most popular games
- 6 Cores and 12 processing threads, based on AMD "Zen 4" architecture
- 5.3 GHz Max Boost, unlocked for overclocking, 38 MB cache, DDR5-5200 support
- AMD AM5 Socket: Supports AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Processors
- DDR5 Compatible: 4*DIMMs with AMD EXPO & Intel XMP Memory Module Support
- Choose the 7600 when it is cheaper and you want a straightforward build without buying a separate cooler.
- Consider the 7600X when the CPU-plus-cooler total is close to the 7600’s price, or when you already own a compatible cooler.
Power and cooling considerations
The 7600 has a 65W default TDP; the 7600X is rated at 105W. In TechSpot’s 2023 comparison, the 7600X used about 12% more power at the total-system level. This is a measurement from that review’s test system, not a universal CPU-only consumption figure or a prediction for every PC.
The higher TDP rating and separate-cooler requirement are worth considering in a budget build, particularly if you are trying to minimize total parts cost. They do not establish a specific electricity-bill difference: that depends on actual usage, system configuration, and local electricity rates.

Which Ryzen 5 should you buy?
Pick the Ryzen 5 7600 if value is the priority
For a cost-conscious gaming PC, the 7600 is usually the simpler choice when its price is lower. It has the same core and thread count, cache, socket, and memory support as the 7600X, and its included cooler avoids an extra purchase.

Pick the Ryzen 5 7600X if the complete cost is close
The 7600X offers higher clocks and was modestly faster in TechSpot’s tested games. It can be worthwhile if the price difference is small after accounting for a suitable cooler, or if cooling is already covered by a cooler you own.

Check the whole build, not just the CPU price
Both CPUs require an AM5 motherboard and DDR5 memory in a new build. For the CPU decision, compare the live CPU-plus-cooler cost, then consult game benchmarks that resemble your intended graphics card and resolution. The 7600X’s higher boost clock alone does not establish that it is the better budget purchase.
