For gaming, neither CPU is a universal winner. The Ryzen 5 7600X and Core i5-13400F deliver comparable results in ComputerBase’s game testing, with performance varying by title. Choose based on the cost and fit of the complete build: the 7600X requires an AM5 motherboard, DDR5 memory, and a separately purchased cooler; the 13400F can work with a compatible LGA1700 board using DDR4 or DDR5, and it needs a discrete graphics card.
Gaming performance: close, but not identical in every game
ComputerBase characterized the Core i5-13400(F) as comparable in games to the Ryzen 5 7600(X) in its review suite. The results vary by game and metric, so that comparison supports a close-performance conclusion—not a promise that either CPU wins every title or setup. ComputerBase’s review also reports separate Intel results for standard DDR5-4800 and memory-overclocked DDR5-5600 configurations, which is another reason not to treat a benchmark outcome as universal.
Other cited figures need careful interpretation. Tom’s Hardware reported the Ryzen 5 7600X as 2.5% faster than the Core i5-13400 in its review configurations, but that comparison is with the non-F i5-13400, not the 13400F; it is context, not a direct gaming verdict for these exact two CPUs. Tom’s Hardware’s review does not replace a like-for-like result across your games, graphics card, resolution, and settings.

A separate 2023 video description lists a 10-game comparison at 1080p using Windows 11, an RTX 4090, and 32 GB of DDR5-6000. The description does not provide a clean, reproducible results table, so exact FPS figures from that comparison are not a sound basis for choosing. The comparison description identifies its setup, but not enough detail here to support a score-by-score conclusion.

| Clock specification | 4.7 GHz base clock; boost up to 5.3 GHz | Maximum turbo frequency of 4.60 GHz |
| Socket and memory | AM5 motherboard and DDR5 system memory | LGA1700 motherboard; board determines DDR4 or DDR5 support. Intel lists support up to DDR4-3200 or DDR5-4800. |
| Power specification | 105 W default TDP | 65 W processor base power; 148 W maximum turbo power |
| Graphics | Basic integrated Radeon graphics with 2 graphics cores | Plan on a discrete graphics card for display output |
| Cooling | No thermal solution included with the boxed processor; AMD recommends a premium air cooler for optimal performance | Check the exact retail package for cooler contents and plan cooling for the system |
These specifications come from AMD and Intel’s product pages. The 7600X launched September 27, 2022; Intel lists the 13400F as launched in Q1 2023. AMD Ryzen 5 7600X specifications · Intel Core i5-13400F specifications
Choose the 7600X if the AM5 build makes sense
The 7600X is the straightforward pick if you are building around AM5 and its CPU, motherboard, DDR5 memory, and cooler fit your budget. It offers six cores and 12 threads, boost up to 5.3 GHz, and basic integrated Radeon graphics. The integrated graphics can be useful for basic display output or troubleshooting, but a gaming system will ordinarily use a separate graphics card.

- 10 cores (6 P-cores plus 4 E-cores) and 16 threads
- Performance hybrid architecture integrates two core microarchitectures, prioritizing and distributing workloads to optimize performance
- Up to 4.6 GHz. 20M Cache
- Compatible with Intel 600 series and 700 series chipset-based motherboards
- Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0, and PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 support. Intel Optane Memory support. Intel Laminar RH1 Cooler included. Discrete graphics required
Include the cooler in the build calculation: the boxed 7600X does not include a thermal solution. AMD recommends a premium air cooler for optimal performance, so do not compare the CPU price alone against a system whose cooler is already covered.

The 13400F can make more sense when you already have a compatible LGA1700 motherboard or DDR4 memory you can reuse. Its memory type is not a CPU-only choice: the motherboard determines whether the system uses DDR4 or DDR5. Check the board’s specifications before buying; a DDR4 board and a DDR5 board are not interchangeable memory options.

- 10 cores (6 P-cores plus 4 E-cores) and 16 threads
- Performance hybrid architecture integrates two core microarchitectures, prioritizing and distributing workloads to optimize performance
- Up to 4.7 GHz unlocked. 20MB Cache
- Compatible with Intel 600-series (with potential BIOS update) and 700-series chipset-based motherboards
- PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 support. DDR4 and DDR5 Memory support. RM1 thermal solution included. Discrete graphics required.
The “F” model should be paired with a discrete graphics card. Do not assume the motherboard’s video ports will produce a picture with this CPU. Also verify the exact retail package’s cooler contents rather than assuming a cooler is included.

There is no established universal price winner here: current prices, stock, and bundles depend on location and change over time. Compare the parts you actually need to buy, not just the processor listings:
- CPU
- Compatible motherboard
- Memory, accounting for whether the board uses DDR4 or DDR5
- CPU cooler, especially for the 7600X
- Any parts you can reuse, such as an existing compatible board or memory kit
If the complete AM5 platform costs about the same as the LGA1700 build and you want AM5, the 7600X is a reasonable gaming choice. If compatible LGA1700 parts or reusable DDR4 make the 13400F setup meaningfully less expensive, it is also a sensible option given the cited review’s close gaming comparison. Make the final call using local prices and the games you play, not an across-the-board FPS claim.
