“Ryoko WiFi” and “Ryoko portable WiFi” appear to refer to the same product category and brand, not two clearly distinct devices. Ryoko’s official materials describe a portable cellular WiFi hotspot/router. The real buying questions are which Ryoko model is on offer, what data and service come with it, whether your destination is supported, and whether you can use a SIM card of your choice.

Are Ryoko WiFi and Ryoko portable WiFi different products?

The wording alone does not establish two separate products. Ryoko’s official terms call it a portable WiFi router or internet hotspot, while its sales materials use names including “Ryoko WiFi” and “Ryoko portable WiFi.” “Portable WiFi” describes the device type; it is not, by itself, evidence of a separate model. The terms describe a device that shares a cellular connection with WiFi-capable devices and allows up to 10 connections at once (Ryoko Terms of Service).

Before ordering, confirm the exact model or generation in the listing and the accompanying data offer. Ryoko PRO, for example, was presented as a newer version in a company announcement dated February 17, 2025 (Ryoko PRO launch announcement). The available information does not establish a complete, side-by-side specification comparison between Ryoko and Ryoko PRO.

What does Ryoko do, and what are its main restrictions?

Ryoko is a cellular hotspot: it connects to a mobile network and creates a WiFi connection for nearby devices. This can be useful when you want a separate connection to share with multiple devices rather than connecting each one independently. It still depends on service being available where you travel, and the device itself does not establish that data service is included indefinitely.

SIM compatibility is an important limitation. Ryoko’s terms say its data plans are designed for the supplied Viaota SIM and that third-party SIM cards are not supported or guaranteed. If you expect to insert a local SIM from a destination country, do not assume Ryoko will accept it; check the current terms and exact model first (Ryoko Terms of Service).

What do Ryoko’s coverage, speed, and battery claims mean?

Ryoko’s sales pages do not present one consistent set of figures. One page advertises coverage in more than 137 countries, speeds of up to 150 Mbps, and connections for up to 10 devices. Another Ryoko page claims 164 countries and up to eight hours of WiFi operation (Ryoko sales page). These are company claims, not independently verified measurements, and the differing country totals are not explained by the available materials.

Ryoko PRO has a separate battery claim: the February 17, 2025 company announcement says up to eight hours of WiFi operation, extendable to up to 10 hours with a separately purchased upgrade (Ryoko PRO launch announcement). Do not apply that figure to another Ryoko version without verifying the model. Actual speeds and battery life for a particular trip are not established by these promotional statements.

Will Ryoko work at your destination?

Check the live destination and service information before you buy or travel. Country-count claims do not guarantee service in a particular place, on a particular network, or at every location within a country. Ryoko’s support homepage displayed a notice that service would be discontinued starting September 11, 2026, in the Bahamas, Cape Verde, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize, the United Arab Emirates, Georgia, Laos, Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, and the Cayman Islands. The notice is date-specific and does not establish later availability or service status elsewhere. Check Ryoko Support for current destination information.

What should you check before buying?

  • Model: Verify whether the offer is for Ryoko, Ryoko PRO, or another specifically named version; do not rely on “portable WiFi” as a model identifier.
  • Included data: Confirm how much data, if any, comes with the exact offer, how long it lasts, and what data costs afterward. A localized version of Ryoko’s terms mentions 500 MB of included data, but that does not establish that the allowance is part of every current offer or locale (Ryoko Terms of Service).
  • SIM and service: Confirm the supplied Viaota SIM and plan requirements, and whether the service covers your destination. Do not plan around a third-party SIM without explicit confirmation in the current terms.
  • Return and warranty terms: Read the current terms for the exact sales region and offer. Ryoko’s terms also warn that third-party accessories may be incompatible and may affect warranty coverage (Ryoko Terms of Service).
  • Seller and listing identity: Make sure the seller identifies the model and spells out the included SIM and data. A matching product name alone is not enough to confirm what is included.

Is Ryoko worth considering?

Ryoko may suit travelers who want a separate hotspot for sharing a connection and are comfortable using the supplied Viaota service, provided the model, destination coverage, and data terms fit their needs. It is a less straightforward choice for someone who expects to use a local third-party SIM or needs independently verified speed, battery, or reliability performance.

This is a cautious assessment of the official product descriptions and terms, not a hands-on performance review. The available evidence does not support a categorical claim that Ryoko is faster, cheaper, or more reliable than a phone hotspot or another travel router.
