Konstantin Kozlovsky, identified by Interfax as organizer of the Lurk hacking group, was sentenced by a court in Yekaterinburg to 14 years in a strict-regime penal colony, plus one year of restricted liberty. Interfax reported the sentence on February 14, 2022.
Who was sentenced, and what was the punishment?
Interfax reported that the Kirovsky District Court in Yekaterinburg sentenced Kozlovsky for the totality of offenses under three articles of Russia’s Criminal Code: Article 272, unlawful access to computer information; Article 210, organizing a criminal community; and Article 159.6, large-scale group fraud involving computer information. The sentence was 14 years in a strict-regime penal colony, followed by an additional one-year restriction of liberty. These details are reported by Interfax; the report is not the court judgment itself.
What was the Lurk group accused of stealing?
Interfax described Lurk as an interregional group that used malicious software to take money from accounts belonging to customers of Russian financial institutions. It said the alleged activity began in 2013 and that law enforcement disrupted the group in 2017.

The report does not identify this as an audited loss for a single victim or as money personally taken by Kozlovsky.

Interfax reported that Kozlovsky’s claims that he had stolen data from U.S. government servers were not substantiated during the criminal investigation. It attributed to an unnamed informed source the statement that examinations found no infection of U.S. government network infrastructure; according to that source, the examined targets were Russian companies using remote banking systems. Interfax also reported that investigators did not establish a link between Kozlovsky and Dmitry Dokuchaev, a former employee of the FSB information-security center. These are findings and sourcing described in the Interfax report, not independently verified court findings.
