RuneScape Reignited is Jagex’s advertised fresh-start experience: a remastered journey from Lumbridge, a Gielinor Adventure Guide, officially supported plugins and no Treasure Hunter. Some existing players welcome the chance to begin again together; others worry that a new character type could pull friends and activity away from established characters. The concern is visible in community discussions, but it is not evidence that the player base will split in practice.
What RuneScape Reignited promises
Jagex describes Reignited as a way to rediscover Gielinor from the beginning, with recent restoration work shaping the experience. Its official page promotes a remastered route from Lumbridge, a Gielinor Adventure Guide, officially supported plugins and a world without Treasure Hunter. Jagex frames the launch as “a chance to rediscover Gielinor together,” not as an independent assessment of how players will respond. Jagex’s Reignited page advertises full access without membership from December 2 through December 12; the page copy reviewed does not specify the year or explain eligibility and account conditions.
The pitch sits within Jagex’s wider restoration effort. In a September 24, 2026 post, Jagex said 120,000 players voted in favour of removing Treasure Hunter and that more than 225 MTX items were removed from sale in January 2026. Those figures describe the restoration program; they do not show how many players support Reignited or predict its population. Jagex’s MTX update provides that context.

The concern is that a new starting line may draw players, friends and social activity away from long-standing characters. In two Reddit discussions, individual commenters used phrases such as “splitting the playerbase” and “split the community,” questioned whether there would be “zero reasons to start in the old worlds,” and worried about leaving years of progress behind. Those posts show the kinds of questions players are asking; they are examples, not a poll or proof of broad consensus.

- Another discussion includes questions about how the new experience relates to existing worlds and characters.
The underlying tension is straightforward: a reset can make the early journey feel meaningful again, but it can also make veteran progress feel less central if friends move to different character types or the two experiences cannot interact.
Will Reignited split the player base?
It is too early to treat a split as an established outcome. The official landing page confirms the advertised experience and access window, but does not spell out whether players use an existing Jagex account, can maintain or switch between Reignited and established characters, share membership, or interact across character types through trading, grouping, clans or chat. It also does not explain economy and high-score separation or whether progress can transfer.
Those rules matter more than the “fresh start” label alone. Shared friends lists, clans, chat or social spaces could keep players connected even if progression differs. Separate accounts, restricted grouping or trading, or a distinct economy could make the experiences feel more isolated. These are the details to look for in an official rules page; they are not confirmed by the landing page reviewed here.

What to check before choosing a character
If you are deciding whether to try Reignited or keep playing your established character, check Jagex’s official rules for the following before making plans around your account or friends:
- Character and account setup: whether Reignited is created under an existing Jagex account and whether you can keep or switch between character types.
- Membership: whether membership applies to both experiences or must be handled separately.
- Playing together: whether characters can trade, group, join the same clans, or communicate through shared social features.
- Progress and competition: whether the economy, high scores and progression are separate, and whether any progress can transfer.
- Availability: the confirmed year and conditions for the advertised December 2–12 access period, and whether access continues afterward.
- What changes in play: how the remaster, guide, supported plugins and removal of Treasure Hunter affect the experience you want to play.
Until Jagex answers those questions, players can assess the advertised fresh-start features, but cannot reliably judge how much Reignited will separate them from existing characters or communities.
