RuneScape Reignited is a planned fresh-start character type inside the existing RuneScape game, not a separate MMO. Jagex announced a December 2, 2026 launch, with a new economy and a level playing field for new and returning players. But on October 6, the company said it was reconsidering major parts of the plan after players raised concerns. The launch date and original rules should therefore be treated as announced plans, not settled details.
What RuneScape Reignited is
At RuneFest 2026, Jagex introduced Reignited as a new character type for RuneScape. Its stated aim is to let new and returning players start together, without paid progression advantages, in a fresh economy with its own hiscores. Jagex tied the experience to the Adventure Guide and a remastered early-game journey. The original announcement set December 2, 2026 as the launch date and offered Reignited characters ten days of access to members’ content. Those are terms from the October 3 announcement; Jagex later said it was reviewing the plan.
Reignited is not a standalone game or a separate client. The announced design would let Reignited and Veteran characters encounter one another, join clans, and use homesteads, while separating trading, Grand Exchange use, and shared boss instances by character type. The official FAQ also described worlds reserved for Reignited characters. Because Jagex began reconsidering restrictions on October 6, these should be read as the original proposal rather than confirmed final rules. Jagex presented Reignited as a new entry point following changes it says were intended to restore RuneScape: removing Treasure Hunter, reworking systems, improving the early journey, and adding the Adventure Guide. Its pitch is that players can return or begin on shared terms, with a new economy and no paid progression advantage. These are the company’s reasons for the project, not proof that it will attract players or succeed.

In an October 5 interview with GamesRadar, RuneScape creative director Ryan Philpott described it as “an opportunity to relaunch RuneScape.” He said: “We believe – going as far as to say we know – this is the right time to relaunch RuneScape in this way [and] show everyone how great a game RuneScape is again, after ripping out some of those egregious features.” The confidence is Philpott’s characterization of Jagex’s decision, not an independently established forecast. Reignited versus Veteran characters: the announced plan
The October 3 plan drew a line between fresh-start progression and the existing character environment. The following comparison reflects what Jagex had announced before its October 6 review:

The membership, interaction, and recognition details were among the issues Jagex said it was exploring changes to, so the table is a snapshot of the initial proposal, not a definitive guide to launch rules.
Why existing players objected
Jagex’s October 6 community statement acknowledged that some existing players felt they were no longer the focus. The company identified several concerns:

- Veteran worlds could lose population as players moved to the new character type.
- Adding another community might fragment a playerbase players already viewed as small.
- Long-term Veteran progress and achievements might not be adequately recognized.
- Restrictions between character types could limit shared play.
- A separate membership requirement could make trying Reignited less appealing.
These objections go to the design’s central trade-off: a genuinely separate start and economy can protect the fresh-start premise, but can also divide players and limit interaction with established characters.

Jagex said it was preparing substantial revisions, including ways to recognize Veteran progress, avoid a hard community split, and reconsider membership options. It planned to put proposals to players by the end of that week. As of the latest statement cited here, the company had not announced a final revised design. That means the October 3 launch date and mechanics remained announced plans under review; there was not yet a settled answer on separate membership, cross-character restrictions, or how Veteran achievements would be treated. What players should watch for
If you are deciding whether Reignited is for you, the next useful information is not another promise of a fresh start but Jagex’s revised rules. In particular, look for clear answers on:

- Which activities, if any, Reignited and Veteran characters can share.
- Whether playing Reignited requires a separate membership or offers another access route.
- How the game will acknowledge existing characters’ achievements and progression.
- Whether December 2, 2026 remains the intended launch date.
Until those proposals are published and resolved, returning players can understand the intended fresh-start concept, but should not rely on every original restriction or membership term as final.
