For high-settings 1440p gaming on a tighter budget, the RTX 5070 is the more sensible choice. Pick the RTX 5070 Ti if you want more graphics resources and 16 GB of memory for high-refresh 1440p, demanding ray tracing, or selected 4K gaming—and its real-world price premium is acceptable.
In a US price snapshot published October 1, 2026, and accessed October 3, the RTX 5070 was listed at $779 and the RTX 5070 Ti at $1,149.99. Those volatile listings were well above their launch MSRPs, so the deciding factor is the current price of the specific cards you can actually buy.

Which card makes more sense for your games?
Choose the RTX 5070 for mainstream 1440p
The RTX 5070 is the value-minded option if you want high settings at 1440p and would rather avoid paying a large premium for extra capacity and GPU resources. Its 12 GB of GDDR7 is not evidence that the card is inadequate for all 1440p gaming. Game, settings, and workload matter, and the available evidence does not establish a universal share of games that exceed 12 GB.

Choose the RTX 5070 Ti for higher demands
The Ti’s 8,960 CUDA cores and 16 GB of GDDR7 make it the stronger fit when you are targeting high-refresh 1440p, heavier ray tracing, or selected 4K use. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 graphics-card roundup describes the 5070 Ti as versatile at 1440p and notes that it can reach 60-plus FPS at 4K in some circumstances; that is not a guarantee across games or settings.
The extra 4 GB gives the Ti more memory capacity, but it does not establish a specific lifespan advantage or number of years of use. Buy it for the workloads and settings you value now, rather than a promised future-proofing period.
How to interpret performance comparisons
NVIDIA’s official comparison graphic shows 1440p at maximum settings with DLSS Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction. In that comparison, the RTX 50-series uses Multi Frame Generation (4X), while the RTX 40-series uses Frame Generation. It is therefore not a like-for-like native-rendering comparison, and its results should not be treated as a direct measurement of the 5070 Ti’s advantage over the 5070.
No sufficiently transparent, consistent independent head-to-head test establishes one general percentage by which the Ti is faster. Performance varies with the game, resolution, graphics settings, upscaling, and frame-generation features. Treat any percentage as meaningful only when the test identifies those conditions and the hardware used.
Compare the actual price, not just the MSRP
PC Gamer’s graphics-card price watch, published October 1, 2026, listed a Walmart RTX 5070 at $779 and a Newegg RTX 5070 Ti at $1,149.99, against US launch MSRPs of $549 and $749. These are retailer snapshots, not stable prices; availability and offers can change. Check current listings for the exact board model before deciding.
At those cited prices, the Ti’s premium is especially steep. Its added memory and GPU resources may suit a more demanding setup, but they do not automatically justify paying any price gap. Compare the two cards available to you, including seller, return policy, warranty, dimensions, connector, and total cost.
Regional pricing can differ substantially. Tom’s Hardware reported that, in China on July 27, 2026, listed prices for selected RTX 5070 Ti models were as much as 76% above MSRP in MSI’s published list, while selected Colorful models were about 58.7% above MSRP. Those China-specific examples should not be read as US pricing or a global price rule.

Check your PC before ordering
The comparison source reports power targets of 250W for the RTX 5070 and 300W for the RTX 5070 Ti, a 50W difference. These are reference-level figures; partner cards can have different requirements. Before buying, check the product page for the exact card and confirm:
- Whether your power supply meets the card maker’s recommended wattage and has the required power connector.
- Whether the card’s length, height, and slot thickness fit your case.
- Whether your case airflow and cooling are suitable for that specific model.
Do not assume that every RTX 5070 or 5070 Ti has identical physical dimensions or power requirements. Check the board-partner specifications against your existing build.
What NVIDIA said about GeForce supply
In a statement reproduced by Tom’s Guide in an article updated January 15, 2026, NVIDIA said: “Demand for GeForce RTX GPUs is strong, and memory supply is constrained. We continue to ship all GeForce SKUs and are working closely with our suppliers to maximize memory availability.” This describes the company’s position at that time; it is not a guarantee of current production, retail stock, or pricing.
