Wccftech reported on October 2, 2026, that Reddit user u/Maker_753 said a small triangular section of the RTX 4090 Founders Edition heatsink had come away after the PC was moved. The owner reportedly said the card was purchased in August 2023 and that they discovered the problem just outside NVIDIA’s three-year warranty period. The same report says repair specialists had quoted nearly $400. Those are claims attributed to the owner, not independently confirmed purchase, warranty, or repair records, and the quote should not be treated as a typical repair price.

No. This is a single reported incident. Wccftech’s account says the owner could not find comparable reports, and the available information does not establish how often this happens or whether it reflects a design defect. The fact that the owner noticed the damage after moving the PC does not show that the move caused it.

The failure mechanism is also unknown. Solder failure and thermal cycling were discussed as possible explanations, but neither is a diagnosis. There is no verified information about whether the card’s PCB or other components were affected, whether it still operated normally, or whether a repair was completed.
What RTX 4090 FE owners should do if a heatsink section detaches
- Stop using the card if its condition is uncertain. A detached cooler section or exposed heatpipes warrants caution. The available account does not establish that operating the card is safe or that performance is unaffected.

Can the RTX 4090 FE heatsink be repaired?
