Bell and TELUS were named Global Leaders for 5G Coverage Experience, while Rogers and TELUS were named Global Leaders for 5G Reliability in Opensignal’s 2026 Global 5G awards. Those labels recognize strong results in separate measures; they do not mean the Canadian carriers took the global top spots.
Which Canadian carriers led each 5G category?
MobileSyrup’s report on Opensignal’s 2026 awards gives Bell and TELUS a shared Global Leader recognition for coverage, and Rogers and TELUS Global Leader recognition for reliability.
| Award measure | Canadian Global Leaders | Reported score |
|---|---|---|
| 5G Coverage Experience | Bell and TELUS | 6.7 out of 10 each |
| 5G Reliability | TELUS and Rogers | TELUS: 975.3 out of 1000; Rogers: 970.7 out of 1000 |
These figures are reported by MobileSyrup, which attributes them to Opensignal’s awards.
What does “Global Leader” mean?
Global Leader is an award tier, not the same designation as Global Winner. The cited reports identify T-Mobile in the United States as the 5G Coverage Experience Global Winner, with 8.4 out of 10. For 5G Reliability, the reported Global Winners were au at 981.4 and SoftBank at 980.5 out of 1000. These winners and scores are reported by MobileSyrup; iPhone in Canada also distinguishes the Canadian recognitions from the global top awards.

Coverage and reliability measure different things
5G Coverage Experience
Coverage Experience reflects the geographic reach of a carrier’s 5G network within a market while accounting for population density. It is scored on a 10-point scale. Bell and TELUS each received a reported 6.7 out of 10 in Canada.
5G Reliability
Reliability concerns whether people can complete everyday tasks consistently once they are connected to 5G. It does not measure the likelihood of initially connecting to 5G. The Canadian Global Leaders’ reported scores were 975.3 for TELUS and 970.7 for Rogers, on a 1000-point scale.

- Rear Camera: 50MP, f/1.8 (wide) + 5MP, f/2.2 (ultrawide) + 2MP, f/2.4 (macro), LED flash, panorama, HDR; Front Camera: 13MP, f/2.0, Android 14, up to 6 major Android upgrades, One UI 6.1
- 3G: HSDPA 850/900/1700(AWS)/1900/2100; 4G LTE: 1/2/3/4/5/7/12/13/14/20/25/26/28/29/30/38/39/40/41/48/66/71, 5G: 2/5/25/41/66/71/77/78 SA/NSA/Sub6/mmWave - Nano-SIM + eSIM
- US Model – Global Connectivity – Compatible with Most GSM Carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T, MetroPCS, etc. Will Also work with CDMA Carriers Such as Verizon, Straight Talk.
The two scales describe different aspects of service and should not be compared numerically. A coverage score is not a reliability score, and neither alone tells you which network will perform best at a specific location.
When were the measurements collected?
iPhone in Canada reports that the device measurements for the awards ran from January 1 through June 29, 2026. The results therefore reflect observations collected during that period, rather than a guarantee of performance at every place or at a later date.

What the awards can—and cannot—tell you
The awards offer a national-level comparison of specific 5G dimensions, but they do not establish the best carrier for every address, travel route, plan, or device. If you are choosing a service, check each carrier’s current coverage information for the places you use your phone, then weigh your plan’s terms and your device’s network compatibility. A countrywide award should be one input, not a substitute for checking local service.
MobileSyrup relayed Opensignal’s description of the awards as recognizing “the best real-world 5G experiences.” That phrase describes the awards’ aim; it does not remove the distinction between the metrics or make the results a location-specific prediction.
