Rockwell’s October 2, 2020 announcement and its 2022 annual filing establish the dates.

Why did Rockwell acquire Oylo?

Rockwell described Oylo’s industrial operational technology (OT) and ICS cybersecurity capabilities as complementary to IT cybersecurity expertise it said it had gained through its recent acquisition of Avnet Data Security. Rockwell presented the deal as a way to expand its global delivery capability; that is the company’s stated rationale, not an independently measured outcome.

In the acquisition announcement, Frank Kulaszewicz, then senior vice president of Lifecycle Services at Rockwell Automation, said: “As connected smart devices are introduced into the plant floor, having a comprehensive cyber security strategy that spans across industrial operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) is more critical now than ever before.” This was Rockwell’s view at the time.
