No single robot vacuum is worth buying for every home. The right model depends on what covers your floors, how much pet hair reaches them, and whether you want a dock that handles emptying and mop washing. Independent testers reach different winners for hard floors, carpet and tight budgets, so the picks below are grouped by use case rather than ranked as one universal best.
These picks come from independent test coverage and manufacturer product listings checked in October 2026. They are not a log of one household’s daily use. Prices, bundles and stock change often, so confirm the exact model and dock configuration before you buy.
What to check before you shortlist
Four factors decide most of the difference between models that look similar on paper.

- Floor surfaces and debris. Hard floors, low-pile rugs and thick carpet produce very different results, and a model that excels on one can struggle on another.
- Pet hair and brush design. Shedding volume and carpet type matter more than a headline suction figure. Anti-tangle brush designs are a manufacturer feature, not proof of superior pickup.
- Mopping style. A damp maintenance pad handles daily dust and light dirt. A more involved scrubbing or roller system is a different category, with more upkeep.
- Dock and maintenance. Self-emptying reduces hands-on bin emptying. A multifunction dock adds mop washing, drying and water or solution handling, and it needs a suitable spot in the home.
Shortlist at a glance
The table combines manufacturer suction figures with the results independent testers reported. Suction numbers are product specifications, not measured cleaning outcomes. Where a source did not state a value, the cell says so.

Sources: Tom’s Guide, “The 6 best robot vacuums in 2026, tried and tested”, and Tom’s Guide, “The 4 best cheap robot vacuums you can buy in 2026”. The QV 35S percentages are that publication’s controlled-test results on its own test surfaces, not universal cleaning-efficiency rates.
Picks by home type
Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete: premium overall
Tom’s Guide’s 2026 testing put this model at the top of its roundup, citing strong pickup across different debris and good mopping. That is the publisher’s conclusion. It is a reasonable starting point for a home with mixed flooring and a need for a fuller mop-and-vacuum routine, but confirm the exact bundle, since the mop setup and dock contents determine what you actually get.
Dreame D10 Plus Gen 2: budget choice for hard floors
This is the value pick for a home that is mostly hard floors with everyday crumbs, dust and light dirt. Tom’s Guide describes its mop as basic, suited to daily dirt rather than dried-on marks. Its “under $300” standing comes from a dated test-guide context and is not a guaranteed current price. If your home has thick carpet, heavy shedding pets or stains that have dried, the same source’s cautions apply and you should look higher in the lineup.
Roborock QV 35S: mid-priced and self-emptying
The QV 35S is the most data-rich pick in the shortlist. On hardwood, Tom’s Guide’s controlled tests recorded strong results for cereal and flaxseed and a solid 92% for pet hair. On carpet, its pet hair result fell to 60%, which is the number to weigh if your home has rugs or long-pile carpet with shedding animals. Its mopping and dock features are less advanced than premium alternatives, so it suits a home that wants hands-off bin emptying more than a sophisticated wash-and-dry routine.

Roborock Saros 20: premium alternative
Saros 20 is the higher-spec option in this shortlist, with a manufacturer-listed 36,000 Pa suction figure. Tom’s Guide publishes its controlled results by floor and debris type, so read the carpet and pet-hair rows for the specific surfaces in your home rather than relying on the suction number. Its price and bundle move, so compare the exact configuration before you commit.
Reference point: iRobot Roomba Max 705
Consumer Reports’ 2026 guide lists an overall score of 74 for this model, with an approximate retail price of $725 in that table. The price is the guide’s approximate figure, not a current quote. It is useful as a second opinion from a different testing organization when comparing premium options.
Dock and mop maintenance
A dock changes how much work the vacuum leaves you. Compare these points for each exact model:
- Self-emptying. The dock empties the robot’s bin into a bag, reducing manual emptying. Check whether the bag is included and how often you will need to replace it.
- Mop washing and drying. Multifunction docks clean and dry mop pads, which means water or cleaning solution to refill and a drying cycle to plan around. Simpler docks leave pad washing to you.
- Footprint. TechRadar notes that a more comprehensive dock can be bulky, so measure the spot you intend to use.
- Consumables. Filters, brushes, dust bags and mop pads are model-specific. Confirm compatibility by exact model and dock before buying replacements. Roborock’s official US store offers an accessories shop for its own products, at Roborock’s US robot vacuum catalog.
Navigation and room fit
Obstacle avoidance, low-clearance access under furniture and threshold crossing decide whether a robot can work through a lived-in room without getting stuck or skipping areas. Dreame and Roborock describe these capabilities on their product pages, including obstacle recognition and threshold crossing on several models, but those are manufacturer descriptions. Check the exact model page in the Dreame US robot vacuum collection, and look for independent evidence before ranking one model’s navigation above another’s.

How independent guides compare models
Testers measure different things, so compare methods as well as scores. TechRadar’s review method combines standardized tests and general-use assessment, including noise during cleaning and emptying, battery life, how often the robot returns to the dock, and usability and app control. Consumer Reports’ 2026 guide lists navigation, pet hair, ease of use, noise, data privacy and data security among its robot-vacuum criteria. Privacy matters most for camera-equipped or cloud-connected models, so read the privacy notes for the exact app and model you plan to use.
Prices and dated rankings
Rankings change with availability and price. RTINGS updated its budget and cheap picks on August 7, 2026, citing current availability and pricing. At that update, its upper mid-range pick was the Roborock Qrevo Curv and its budget pick was the MOVA P10 Pro Ultra. Check the RTINGS robot vacuum guide for its latest update before you buy.
The Bottom Line
Start with your floors and your pets. For mostly hard floors and light dirt, the Dreame D10 Plus Gen 2 is the value choice. For mid-priced self-emptying with strong hardwood results, the Roborock QV 35S fits, provided carpet pet hair is not a major concern. For a premium overall pick with a fuller mop routine, Tom’s Guide’s test favors the Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete, and the Roborock Saros 20 is the premium alternative with published controlled results. Confirm the price, dock contents and consumables for the exact model before buying.
