Put your robot mower away when your lawn’s growth has stopped or nearly stopped and frost or winter weather makes mowing unsuitable. There is no date that fits every climate: keep mowing while the grass is actively growing, pause in frost-risk conditions, and follow the storage instructions for your exact mower and installation.
How to tell when it is time to stop
Use the lawn and local weather together, rather than choosing a date from the calendar. Husqvarna’s seasonal guidance says to keep mowing while grass is actively growing, then reduce mowing as growth slows. In mild climates where growth continues, mowing may continue on a reduced schedule. Frost is a reason to pause mowing, even if the mower has not yet gone into long-term storage. Husqvarna’s Frost Guard can park supported models when a forecast predicts temperatures below 5 °C, or when a built-in sensor detects 5 °C or below at the scheduled start time. Winter storage checklist
- Choose the stopping point. Stop when the lawn is no longer growing meaningfully or when frost and winter conditions make mowing unsuitable. If growth continues in a mild climate, reduce mowing frequency as needed rather than relying on a fixed date. Husqvarna seasonal guidance
- Clean and inspect the mower. Clean the chassis, wheels, blade disc and charging contacts. Husqvarna advises replacing cutting blades and screws before winter storage. Wear protective gloves when handling blades, and use parts compatible with your exact model. Husqvarna winter-storage guidance

Battery care depends on the mower
Husqvarna Automower
Husqvarna says to fully charge the mower before switching it off for storage. Most Automower models do not need charging during storage, while some older models require a recharge every three months. Check the instructions for your model and age; do not apply the general guidance to a model with different directions. Husqvarna winter-storage guidance
Segway Navimow i
The Navimow i-series winter-storage guide says to charge the mower to at least 85% and start hibernation. If hibernation is not enabled, the guide calls for recharging every three months. It also specifies storing the packed equipment in a dry location at 5–45 °C. These are Navimow i-series instructions, not a general storage specification for robot mowers. What to do with the charging station and installation
Husqvarna Automower installations
Husqvarna’s general guidance calls for storing the mower indoors in a dry place above 0 °C. The charging station and power supply should also be stored indoors, subject to specified product exceptions. Boundary and guide wires can remain installed. For an Automower NERA, the baseplate can remain outdoors while the station top is stored inside; an EPOS reference station is designed for year-round outdoor use. If a station that should be stored indoors has to remain outside, Husqvarna says to keep it connected to mains power, leave the wires connected and provide weather protection. Segway Navimow i installations
The Navimow i-series guide directs owners to disconnect and store the charging station and antenna cable, and to mark the station’s position before moving it. Follow the guide’s directions for removing or covering the antenna according to its installation. Before you pack it away
- Check the current manual for your exact model and installation, particularly if it is older or has a different battery or station setup.
- Clean the mower and charging contacts, inspect wear, and replace blades and screws if following Husqvarna’s winter-preparation advice. Husqvarna winter-storage guidance
- Confirm whether the charging station, power supply, antenna or other components must be disconnected, stored indoors or left in place.
