The “eternal beauty” face dip takes place in the River Sligachan, beneath the Old Sligachan Bridge on Scotland’s Isle of Skye. In the folklore version reported by Hindustan Times, visitors fully submerge their faces for at least seven seconds and let the water air-dry. The promised beauty is a legend, not a demonstrated effect.
Where is the River Sligachan face-dip spot?
Look for the Old Sligachan Bridge beside the A87, near the Sligachan Hotel, on the Isle of Skye. The reported ritual is in the river beneath or beside the bridge, with parking nearby. Hindustan Times describes the setting below the Black Cuillin mountains and cites Experience Skye for the bridge’s location and nearby parking.

What does the seven-second ritual involve?
As the folklore is commonly described in the travel accounts cited by Hindustan Times, the ritual is to submerge the whole face in the river for at least seven seconds and then let it dry naturally instead of wiping it. This is a reported custom, not a tested skincare practice. The story offers no evidence that the dip produces lasting beauty or that cold river water is suitable for everyone.

What is the legend behind the promise?
One version recounted by travel sources Rabbie’s and The Spirited Explorer, as relayed in the Hindustan Times article published on 1 October 2026, centres on Scathach, a warrior said to guard Skye, and Cu Chulainn, who sails from Ireland to challenge her.
While they are fighting, Scathach’s daughter goes to the river for help. Fairies suggest feeding the warriors; the shared meal ends the conflict. In that telling, the fairies then bless the river with eternal beauty. This is one reported version of a local tale, not established history or a single, verified canonical account of Celtic mythology.
