Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts launched on October 8, 2026, as paid downloadable content for Risk of Rain 2. The official listings name PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. You need the base game to play it. On Xbox, one owner in a lobby lets the expansion’s monsters, levels, and items appear for everyone, but only owners can permanently unlock its content.

Do you need Risk of Rain 2 first?
Yes. The Steam store page for Hallowed Concepts lists Risk of Rain 2 as a requirement, so the expansion cannot be played on its own.

According to 2K’s October 8, 2026 patch notes, the paid expansion includes:

- Two new Survivors: Enforcer, which is unlocked by default, and Acolyte, which must be unlocked.
- One new equipment item: the N’Tormat Curio.
- Three new enemies and three new bosses.
- Three standard stages plus several Trial stages.
- Six interactables, including the Wake stage event.
- Two new item types: 14 Hexes and 11 Hallowed Items.
- Three standard items, Survivor skins, and new music.
These counts are the publisher’s own figures from its patch notes. They describe what is in the update; they are not based on independent gameplay testing.
How Trials, Hexes, and Hallowed Items fit together
The developer’s Steam Community announcements describe the expansion’s main systems. The official diaries explain it as a challenge-and-reward structure, and the three terms below are the core of it.

Paid expansion versus the free update
2K’s notes ship the free base-game update on the same day, but list it separately. Keep the two apart when you decide what to buy.

Only the left column is paid content. The skills and Karma system belong to the base game, so do not count them as expansion features.
Multiplayer ownership rules
The ownership rules for shared lobbies are the most important caveat. The Xbox store page for Hallowed Concepts, linked here, describes them this way:

- One player in a lobby must own Hallowed Concepts for its monsters, levels, and items to appear for everyone in that lobby.
- Players without the expansion cannot select its new Survivors.
- Players without the expansion cannot permanently unlock its new items, logbooks, or other content.
So a friend who owns the expansion can host content that others can play during a session, but lobby access does not give anyone a permanent copy of the unlocks. Anyone who wants to keep those unlocks needs to buy the expansion. The Xbox page is the only source reviewed that sets out these rules. Confirm how PC and PlayStation 5 handle shared lobbies before you rely on them.
Price and where to buy
On October 9, 2026, the Steam listing showed $14.99 in the US. Prices vary by region and change with sales, so the figure is a snapshot, not a fixed price. The Xbox listing is available on the Xbox Store page.
Before you buy, confirm three things: that you own Risk of Rain 2, which platform you play on, and whether your friends own the expansion if you plan to play together.
