Ring’s second-generation Elite doorbell is now called the Wired Doorbell 4K Elite; Ring says the July 21, 2026 name change did not alter the device, its features, or its subscription. It is a permanently powered, PoE+ doorbell aimed at homes with an Ethernet run to the entrance—and buyers willing to plan installation around that wiring. Its headline appeal is Ring’s 4K video specification, motion features and optional gate access control. Its main trade-offs are the need for PoE+ infrastructure, a single relay that must serve either a chime or access control, and a subscription for reviewing and saving recorded video.

What the Ring Wired Doorbell 4K Elite is

Ring positions the product as a professional-grade doorbell for a front door or gate. It is not a battery-powered model or a simple Wi-Fi swap: it uses Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) for power, with an Ethernet connection or Wi-Fi available for network connectivity. Ring’s official product page shows the renamed product as the Wired Doorbell 4K Elite; buyers searching for “Ring Wired Video Doorbell Elite (2nd Gen)” are looking at the same device. Ring’s EU product page listed it at €499.99 and out of stock when accessed on October 4, 2026, so that is a dated regional listing rather than a guaranteed price or availability elsewhere.

What the video and motion specifications mean

Video and field of view

Ring specifies 4K video at 2880 × 2880 pixels, a 1:1 aspect ratio, a 140° horizontal by 140° vertical field of view, and up to 10x enhanced zoom. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of image quality. Ring also says actual resolution can vary with available bandwidth, so the 4K label alone does not guarantee that every live or recorded view will arrive at that resolution.

Motion detection and low-light viewing

Ring lists radar-powered 3D Motion Detection, adjustable Camera Motion Zones, and Low-Light Sight with adaptive night vision that can provide color in very low light. Those capabilities may help tailor alerts and see more in dim conditions, but they do not establish that alerts will never be false or that a visitor will be identifiable at every distance. No controlled independent comparison of this model’s motion performance is established here.

Installation and connectivity requirements

The Elite makes the most sense where a suitable Ethernet cable can be routed to the door and a compatible PoE+ source can be provided. Ring requires Cat5e or better cable and PoE+ compliant with IEEE 802.3at; the cable, PoE switch or injector are not included. The manual says to keep the doorbell within 100 m (328 ft) of its PoE source. Ring recommends at least 15 Mbps upload speed for optimal performance. Its specifications also list 100 Mbit Ethernet and 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi; PoE+ can supply power while Wi-Fi handles network connectivity, but Wi-Fi does not remove the need for PoE+ power.

Ring’s installation manual says the cable should be routed from inside the wall and notes that an electrical box may be needed depending on the wall. The product page recommends professional installation. Ring also recommends a low-voltage contractor for chime or access-controller wiring, and local rules may require professional electrical work. Consult the manual for your region rather than assuming that wiring compatibility is identical everywhere: Ring’s installation guide provides the relevant installation details.

  • True color, even in low light — With Low-Light Sight, just a little ambient light gives you true color video. In total darkness, your camera switches to crisp black-and-white to keep details sharp.

Gate control and chime: choose one relay function

The doorbell has one relay, configurable for an in-home chime or access control. It cannot operate both through that relay at the same time. That distinction matters if you want to use the Elite to trigger a compatible gate or access system while retaining a wired indoor chime: decide which function takes priority before buying and have the installer check the regional manual and existing wiring. Ring’s technical specifications describe the relay and compatibility details: Ring Wired Doorbell 4K Elite specifications.

Recorded video requires a Ring Home plan

Ring says instant notifications, Live View and Two-Way Talk are available without a plan. Reviewing, saving and sharing video history require Ring Home. On the EU product page accessed October 4, 2026, Ring listed plans starting at €3.99 per month per device, a 30-day trial, and 30 days of default video storage with an option to extend to 180 days. Those are EU page terms and prices at that date; check Ring’s current local plan details before budgeting, since subscriptions can change.

Price, availability and hands-on evidence

Prices differ by region and source. Ring’s EU page listed €499.99 and out of stock on October 4, 2026. Cinco Días also reported a €499.99 Spain price in 2026. Australian outlet EFTM cited an AU$749 recommended retail price in its August 2026 review. Check your local listing for the current name, price, stock and included items; these regional figures are not interchangeable.

Scott Plowman’s EFTM review, published August 19, 2026, is an exact-model hands-on account. He found installation straightforward because his house already had the Gen 1 Elite opening prepared, said the Gen 2 fit that opening in his installation, and praised image quality. He was uncertain how much practical improvement the 3D alerts offered. Those observations describe one reviewer’s setup, not a controlled test or a guarantee that the new model will fit every older installation. Read the EFTM review.

Who should consider it—and who should look elsewhere

  • A plausible fit: You can route Cat5e-or-better cable to the door, have or can add a PoE+ source, want a permanently powered doorbell, and value Ring’s specified high-resolution view or compatible access-control option.
  • Think carefully first: You want both a gate relay and an in-home chime from this device, or you would need substantial cable routing or installation work. The relay supports only one of those functions, and installation requirements can add cost and complexity beyond the doorbell itself.
  • Probably not the easy choice: You rent, cannot modify the wall, lack an Ethernet route and PoE+ source, or want a straightforward battery-powered installation. Other Ring doorbells offer different power and resolution approaches, but the available evidence does not establish a comprehensive independently tested ranking among them.

Before ordering, confirm your regional price and stock, the route and distance for the Ethernet cable, the PoE+ hardware needed, the relay function you intend to use, and whether the Ring Home video-history plan fits your budget.
