It offers a wide 2K view and flexible placement, but it still needs a battery, useful direct sunlight and a Ring Protect plan if you want to save and replay recordings. Ring’s specifications do not establish how long the battery lasts in everyday conditions, so “all-day” or maintenance-free operation is not guaranteed.
What is the Ring Outdoor Camera Plus Solar?
It is Ring’s Outdoor Camera Plus Battery paired with a USB-C solar panel. The camera remains battery-powered; the panel helps keep the battery charged rather than replacing it. Ring says the camera charges to 100% when powered by a Ring Solar Panel, but that does not establish how long a charge lasts after installation.
Ring identifies Outdoor Cam Plus as a 2024 release on its Canada product page. Product naming and bundle contents can differ by market and seller, so check the specific listing to confirm that it includes the panel. Ring also lists the USB-C Solar Panel separately as an add-on for the Battery camera. Ring Outdoor Cam Plus product details · Ring Solar Panel guidance
Does Ring Outdoor Camera Plus Solar need a battery?
Yes. Ring’s support guidance says the solar panel does not power the device without a battery inserted. The camera uses a removable Quick Release Battery Pack, and Ring says a spare pack can be purchased separately. A charged spare may help reduce downtime when the installed battery needs charging, particularly at a site with limited sun; check compatibility before buying an accessory. Ring Solar Panel guidance

How much sun does the Ring solar panel need?
Ring recommends installing the panel where it receives at least 2–3 hours of direct sunlight per day. Shading, seasonal changes and cloudy weather can make that exposure difficult to achieve, so a location that looks sunny at one time of day may not provide consistent charging. The panel is intended to help keep the battery charged longer; Ring’s guidance does not promise uninterrupted charging in every location or usage pattern. Ring Outdoor Cam Plus Solar
Before choosing a mounting spot, consider the panel’s sun exposure separately from the camera’s view and Wi-Fi reception. A position that gives the camera a useful view may not be the one that gives the panel dependable sun. If your location is mostly shaded, plan for manual battery charging or consider a different power configuration.

What does the camera offer?
Ring lists 2K video and a 160° diagonal field of view, with 140° horizontal and 80° vertical coverage. It also lists two-way talk with noise cancellation, advanced motion detection with customizable zones, and a remote-activated siren. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent image-quality or detection tests. Ring Outdoor Cam Plus product details
Motion zones let you tailor where the camera looks for activity, while two-way talk provides a way to speak through the camera. The siren is remotely activated. These features can help make the camera useful for monitoring an outdoor area, but the listed specifications do not show how well a particular view will work at night, in backlight or in a busy scene.

Can I view Ring camera recordings without a subscription?
Without a Ring Protect plan, Ring says you can view live video and receive alerts, but videos and photos are not saved for later review. A plan enables recording, photo capture, saving and sharing. That distinction is central to the camera’s usefulness: if you need to check what happened while you were away, live view and alerts alone do not provide a saved clip to replay. What is the difference between Outdoor Camera Plus Battery and Solar?
Ring describes the Battery version as using a removable rechargeable battery, while the Solar configuration adds a panel to help keep that battery charged longer. The Solar version does not remove the battery or change the stated camera features. Ring also lists a Plug-in version powered by an Indoor/Outdoor Power Adapter. Placement and connection considerations
Ring lists dual-band Wi-Fi at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, with Wi-Fi 6 support. It recommends a minimum upload speed of 3.5 Mbps for optimal performance and says resolution may vary with internet bandwidth. These requirements make a reliable connection at the camera’s installed location important, not just a fast connection near the router. Ring Outdoor Cam Plus product details
Ring lists weather-resistant operating conditions of -20°C to 50°C, but cautions that the camera may temporarily turn off in direct sunlight in extreme heat. Avoid treating the operating range as a guarantee of uninterrupted operation at the upper end of the range. Ring Outdoor Cam Plus product details
Privacy controls
Ring describes customizable privacy zones and the Ring Control Center for managing privacy and security settings. Use the zones and camera angle to limit capture of areas you do not intend to monitor. These app controls do not replace careful placement or amount to a guarantee about data handling. Ring privacy and plan information
Who should consider it?
- A good fit: someone who wants a battery camera in a location with reliable Wi-Fi and enough direct sun for the panel, and who is comfortable subscribing for saved recordings.
- Consider another power option: someone with a shaded site who wants to avoid regular battery charging, or someone with a nearby suitable outlet who prefers the Plug-in configuration.
- Check the recording requirement: if saved footage is essential but an ongoing plan is not acceptable, the Solar configuration does not solve that trade-off.
There is no established battery-runtime figure for this exact solar configuration in the cited sources. Actual charging and runtime will depend on conditions such as sunlight, connection and camera use, so the specifications are not a basis for promising all-day operation.
