Choose Steep if you want a focused Alps experience centered on skiing, snowboarding, wingsuiting, and paragliding. Choose Riders Republic if you want biking alongside winter sports and a wider selection of organized multiplayer modes. Neither is an evidence-backed overall winner: the best fit depends on which activities and kind of play matter most to you.
Steep or Riders Republic: what is the main difference?
Steep is built around mountain sports in the Alps, while Riders Republic presents a broader open-world extreme-sports playground. The clearest practical distinction is the sport roster: Ubisoft lists paragliding for Steep, and biking for Riders Republic.

Ubisoft released Steep on December 2, 2016, and Riders Republic on October 28, 2021. The later release does not by itself make one a sequel to the other; the official material cited here establishes different games and feature sets, not a sequel relationship. See the official Steep page and Riders Republic listing.
How do their sports and settings compare?
| Decision point | Steep | Riders Republic |
|---|---|---|
| Officially listed sports | Skiing, snowboarding, wingsuit, and paraglider | Bike, ski, snowboard, and wingsuit |
| Official framing | Open-world Alps mountain experience | Broader open-world extreme-sports playground |
| Best-fit cue | You specifically want paragliding or a concentrated mountain-sports setting | You want biking as well as skiing, snowboarding, and wingsuiting |
These distinctions support a preference-based choice, not a claim that either game has objectively better handling, graphics, realism, or atmosphere. Players describe the games differently, and those reactions are subjective rather than controlled comparisons. A recent community comparison discussion illustrates that opinions differ; it should not be treated as a representative survey.

Which game is better for multiplayer?
Riders Republic has the more extensively documented menu of multiplayer competition. Ubisoft lists downhill races, team-versus-team competition, PvP events, and mass races, and advertises cross-play and cross-progression on its game page.
Ubisoft advertises capacity for more than 50 simultaneous players on next-generation systems and 20 or more on current-generation systems. Those are generation-specific product feature figures, not live counts of people currently playing. The official Steep page says you can play alone or with friends, but the sources do not provide a directly comparable current-player figure or equivalent multiplayer-mode breakdown.

- Pick Steep if you mainly want snow and mountain sports, especially paragliding, in an Alps-focused setting.
- Pick Riders Republic if biking is important, you want several sports in one playground, or you are drawn to its listed competitive multiplayer formats.
- Check your platform first if you are choosing between console generations or PC storefronts; supported platforms and account requirements differ.
Ubisoft’s pages establish sports, platforms, and advertised multiplayer features, but they do not establish a comparable winner for graphics, realism, performance, value, or current active population. Prices and availability also depend on store and date, so verify those details on your preferred platform.
