The Reolink OMVI 3i WiFi is a mains-powered outdoor camera that combines a wide 180-degree panoramic view with a pan-and-tilt close-up lens in one housing. It suits a fixed position where you can run a 12 V power supply and fit a heavy, secure mount, and where you want one device to show a whole yard or entrance and also zoom in on detail. Its main weak points are occasional stitching glitches between the panoramic lenses, tracking stutter when targets move quickly, and a wide field of view that can capture neighbouring property or public paths if it is not placed carefully.

What the OMVI 3i WiFi is

The camera has two imaging assemblies. The upper unit is a dual-lens panoramic camera at 10 MP that provides the overview. The lower unit is a 4K pan-and-tilt (PT) camera at 8 MP that follows movement or can be directed to a specific spot. Reolink describes the combined output as 18 MP total resolution and a 180-degree panoramic view, and says the wide view stays on screen while the lower camera tracks or zooms (Reolink support FAQ, accessed 2026).

Feature Detail for the WiFi model Source and date
Panoramic camera Dual-lens, 10 MP, 180-degree overview Reolink FAQ, accessed 2026
Close-up camera Pan-and-tilt, 4K, 8 MP Reolink FAQ, accessed 2026
Combined resolution 18 MP Reolink FAQ, accessed 2026
Power DC 12 V/2 A adapter; mains-powered Reolink FAQ, accessed 2026
Weather rating IP66 Reolink FAQ, accessed 2026
Local storage microSD slot; card not included; 512 GB maximum card size TechRadar review, 2026
Recommended mounting height 2.5–3.5 m (8–11 ft) Reolink installation guidance, accessed 2026

Two points are easy to miss. First, this WiFi version runs on mains power through its adapter, so it is not a battery or solar model. Second, the panoramic and close-up feeds are two views of one camera. Reolink states that both views are displayed simultaneously in the Reolink App, which is how the combined layout is meant to be used.

Key features

Reolink lists three operating features alongside its detection options. Each works differently, so check them against your setup.

#1 Best Overall
REOLINK OMVI 3i WiFi, 10MP+8MP 4K, Triple-Lens Outdoor Security Camera
  • 10MP+8MP Ultra HD & Triple-Lens | Experience stunning 18MP clarity with a triple-lens design. The upper dual-lens delivers a seamless 180° panoramic view, while the lower 4K Pan-Tilt camera rotates 350° horizontally and 50° vertically to capture distant details – covering 360 degree wide areas with a single outdoor camera.
  • SyncTrack & Auto Tracking & Pinpoint - SyncTrack enables the Pan-Tilt camera to automatically lock onto and follow subjects detected by the panoramic lens – even beyond its field of view. With AI-powered auto framing, it zooms in for clearer detail, supporting auto-cruise for continuous area monitoring.
  • Local AI Video Search & Smart Detection - All AI runs locally for enhanced privacy – no subscription required. Detect people, vehicles, and animals with precision, plus advanced Perimeter Protection including virtual fence, zone intrusion, and loitering alerts. Quickly find key moments in seconds.

  • Dual-Band Wi-Fi 6 & Easy Installation - Enjoy faster, more stable connectivity with 2.4/5GHz WiFi 6. Plug in and set up in minutes – no complex wiring needed. Ideal for monitoring areas like your driveway, entrance, or yard with flexible mounting options and IP66 weatherproof protection. 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞: 𝐏𝐨𝐄 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝.

Pinpoint

Pinpoint lets you tap or click a point in the panoramic view, and the PT lens moves to that location. TechRadar’s reviewer found this the most practical way to inspect a specific part of the scene during the test.

SyncTrack

SyncTrack keeps the panoramic overview and the close-up tracking running continuously and in step with each other. This is the feature that most directly justifies the two-lens design, but it is also where the review recorded tracking stutter and short losses of target when subjects moved fast.

Auto Framing

Auto Framing zooms and frames automatically around detected targets. It depends on the detection settings you enable, and Reolink notes that some compatible-recorder functions depend on the recorder’s conditions.

REOLINK OMVI 3i PoE Triple-Lens PoE Security Camera with Auto Tracking
  • Important Notice: Please ensure your Reolink NVR firmware is updated to version 3.6.4 or later. Earlier versions will only display dual-lens camera footage and will not show the PTZ camera view. Current Reolink client (Windows: v8.21 or later, and Mac (v.8.21) is available in two builds: Apple Silicon and Intel) supports dual-screen display when connected to Reolink NVR/Home Hub/Home Hub Pro. Please check the Q&A section for more details.
  • High-Resolution Triple-Lens Coverage: Total 18MP triple-lens system: 10MP dual-lens panoramic camera for 180° wide view, plus an 8MP PT camera for zoomed-in detail. Full-scene + close-up display ensures no blind spots. (Note: pixel composition 10MP+8MP).
  • SyncTrack & Auto Tracking: When motion is detected by the panoramic camera, the PT camera instantly locks on and tracks the object. Dual-screen view provides full coverage, even if the target leaves the panoramic field. Close-up tracking zooms in automatically for extra detail.
  • Smart AI Detection & Perimeter Protection: Advanced AI Detection reduces false alerts while accurately identifying people, vehicles, and animals. Set custom virtual fences or intrusion zones to get instant alerts before threats reach your property. Non-motion zones can further reduce false alarms.
  • Multi-Scenario Night Vision: Switch between full-color night vision using white light and IR LED mode automatically. Motion-triggered white light paired with alarms deters intruders effectively. 24/7 recording ensures continuous protection.

Detection types

Reolink lists person, vehicle, and animal detection. Firmware and app versions matter here. Reolink’s documentation notes that some functions depend on the app version and, where a recorder is used, on the recorder’s firmware and model.

Power, mounting and placement

Because the camera is mains-powered, the first decision is whether you can reach a suitable outlet or run a cable to a fixed supply. Plan the cable route before you choose the mounting spot.

Reolink lists wall, ceiling and corner mounting. The corner mount is a separate purchase: the RLA-BKC1 V2.0 bracket is sold separately and is only relevant if you need a corner installation. Reolink recommends mounting at 2.5–3.5 m (8–11 ft) and advises avoiding direct light sources, windows and heavily shaded areas.

TechRadar’s reviewer described the camera as heavy and bulky and said it needs a secure mount, a drill, screws and wall plugs. Plan for proper fixings rather than a light bracket.

Placement checklist

  • Confirm a mains outlet or a route for the 12 V adapter cable within reach of the mount.
  • Choose a wall, ceiling or corner position between 2.5 m and 3.5 m high.
  • Avoid pointing the lens at windows, bright lights or deep shade, which the official guidance flags.
  • Check the wide field of view for neighbouring windows, driveways and public walkways, and use detection exclusion zones where the app offers them.
  • Fit heavy-duty screws and wall plugs suited to your wall material.

Recording and compatibility

You have three ways to store footage. The camera has a microSD slot, but no card is included, and TechRadar reported a maximum card size of 512 GB. You can also use Reolink cloud storage, or record to a compatible Reolink NVR. The cloud terms and storage pricing are volatile, so confirm them on Reolink’s site before subscribing.

The official FAQ says the camera uses one NVR channel even though it presents two views. It also lists selected NVR models and Home Hubs as compatible, with firmware requirements. If the recorder’s firmware is out of date, live view may show only the panoramic feed. Update the recorder before you judge the camera’s combined layout.

What the independent test found

TechRadar’s reviewer used the camera outdoors for seven days, with the camera facing a back garden. Those observations come from one reviewer over one week and one setting, so treat them as a useful guide rather than a guarantee of performance in every location.

What worked

  • The 4K close-up images were sharp.
  • The panoramic view covered a wide area.
  • Tap-to-direct behaviour was useful for moving the close-up lens to a point of interest.
  • The integrated spotlights were strong in the test.

What did not

  • The panoramic lenses occasionally failed to stitch cleanly.
  • Fast-moving targets caused tracking stutter or temporary loss of tracking.
  • The wide view can include neighbouring property or public walkways, so placement needs care.

The reviewer did not test the removed-item alert feature, so this article does not present it as verified.

TechRadar’s comparison names the IMOU AOV PT and the Reolink Solar Floodlight Cam as alternatives. Their suitability differs, particularly on power and coverage, so compare them on the following points rather than on headline resolution alone:

  • Panoramic coverage against PTZ-only or narrower coverage.
  • Mains power against battery or solar flexibility.
  • Local microSD storage against recorder or cloud storage.
  • Compatibility with your recorder and app.
  • Mount size, weight and installation effort.
  • Regional purchase price and current specifications.

Who should buy it

The OMVI 3i WiFi makes most sense for a fixed outdoor position with mains power, a sturdy mount and a clear view of the area you want to watch. It is a good match if you want a broad overview and a zoomable close-up from one unit, and you are willing to manage placement and firmware. It is a poor match if you need battery or solar operation, a light and easy installation, or a camera that will only watch a narrow path where the wide field of view could pick up neighbours or the street.
