The Renault Megane E-Tech has a strong documented safety record, but its crash-test results apply to one specific configuration—not automatically to every trim, model year or market. A sensible assessment also considers child-seat installation, the driver aids actually fitted, emergency-response provisions and whether a recall applies to the individual vehicle.
What Euro NCAP tested—and what the scores mean
Euro NCAP awarded five stars to the left-hand-drive Renault Megane E-Tech EV60 220ch Techno it assessed in 2022. The percentages below are category scores from that test, conducted under the 2022 Euro NCAP protocol; they are not ratings for every Megane E-Tech configuration.
| Euro NCAP category | 2022 result |
|---|---|
| Adult occupant protection | 85% |
| Child occupant protection | 88% |
| Vulnerable road user protection | 65% |
| Safety assist | 79% |
Euro NCAP found that the passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test. Protection was generally good or adequate, and performance in the side-barrier test was good. The report also identified specific shortcomings: front-seat whiplash protection, far-side excursion control and neck-tension protection for the 10-year-old dummy were each rated marginal. Rear-seat geometric whiplash protection was good.
For people outside the car, pedestrian head protection was mostly good or adequate, although some areas at the windscreen base and pillars performed poorly. Pelvic protection was mainly weak or poor. AEB performed well in most tested pedestrian and cyclist scenarios, while its response to other vehicles was rated adequate. The assessment also recorded advanced eCall, which can alert emergency services after a crash, but no system designed to prevent a secondary impact after the initial collision.

Child seats, ISOFIX and the front passenger airbag
Euro NCAP reports ISOFIX/i-Size positions and found that the restraint types for which the Megane E-Tech is designed could be installed and accommodated in its assessment. That does not guarantee that every child seat will fit every vehicle or seating position.
Never put a rear-facing child restraint in the front passenger seat while that airbag is enabled. Euro NCAP says the passenger airbag can be disabled for a rear-facing restraint in that position, with status information available to the driver. Follow the specific vehicle’s manual and check the airbag status indicator before travel.

Renault’s manual page for vehicles in an applicability period from 8 April 2024 to 22 September 2024 describes an automatic passenger-detection system on equipped vehicles. Depending on occupancy, it may activate or disable the passenger airbag, and the manual describes status indicators after initialization. Do not assume your car has this system or that it has correctly detected a child seat; verify the instructions and indicator for that vehicle.

When choosing an i-Size/ISOFIX-compatible child car seat, check its approved child height or weight range, compatibility with the exact vehicle and seating position, and installation instructions. Correct installation and airbag status matter more than assuming compatibility from the ISOFIX label alone.

Driver assistance: useful support, not a substitute for driving
In the tested vehicle, Euro NCAP listed standard autonomous emergency braking (AEB) for vulnerable road users and other vehicles, lane support, speed assistance and seat-belt reminders for all seating positions. The lane support could correct steering when the car drifted out of its lane, with stronger intervention in some critical situations. These are findings about the assessed vehicle, not a guarantee that every trim or market has identical equipment.
Renault’s France safety page describes additional systems, including rear automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, lane-departure prevention, emergency-stop assistance and parking aids. For specified lane-correction systems, that page gives an operating range of 70–160 km/h; it says blind-spot warning operates above 15 km/h. These figures and features describe Renault’s France-market information and do not establish fitment on an individual car. Check the vehicle’s market specification and equipment.

Renault cautions that its assistance functions do not replace driver vigilance or responsibility. In practice, check the equipment list and manual for the specific model year and trim, and remain prepared to brake or steer yourself.

Renault describes three responder-oriented provisions for the Megane E-Tech:
Best Value
- 3-in-1 harness booster helps protect your child, from toddler to youth
- Grows with your child from forward-facing harness (26.5-65 lb) to highback booster (40-100 lb*) to backless booster (40-100 lb) *To continue to meet industry standards, we have increased the weight minimum from 30 to 40 lb
- No-Rethread Simply Safe Adjust Harness System allows the headrest and harness to adjust together in one motion
- Lightweight, portable seat is ideal for busy, active parents
- One-hand, 9-position adjustable headrest grows with your child
- QRescue: QR codes on the front and rear windscreen, used since 2022 according to Renault, give responders access to technical vehicle information. Renault says the placement was determined with firefighters and may save up to 15 minutes of intervention time. That is Renault’s stated potential saving, not an independently established result for every rescue.
- SD Switch: A mechanical switch disconnects the battery from the electrical network. Renault recommends its use by firefighters after a severe impact.
- Fireman Access: A provision intended to let firefighters apply water to a battery fire. Renault says the high-voltage battery is designed to avoid fire in normal use and accidents, while noting that an external fire can spread to the battery.
Euro NCAP’s rescue sheet for the 2022-on electric Megane identifies a 420 V lithium-ion battery and high-voltage cable areas, and provides guidance for responders on immobilization, access and isolation. These provisions and the rescue sheet are for emergency responders—not instructions for owners to work on a high-voltage system.
Check whether a recall applies to your Megane E-Tech
A French government RappelConso listing dated 25 June 2026 names the Megane E-Tech among several Renault models in a notice concerning a parking-brake actuator position sensor. The notice describes the sensor being at an incorrect angle, which can lead to incorrect P-lock pin positioning under specified vehicle shutdown, door and seat-belt conditions, with a risk of accident or injury. It says the assisted parking brake remains functional.
The listing does not show that every Megane E-Tech is affected. Contact Renault or use the recall checker for the country where the vehicle is registered, providing its VIN, to establish whether the notice applies and what remedy is needed. A model name or registration year alone is not enough to confirm an individual vehicle’s recall status.
Alarm, immobilizer and theft protection
Alarm, immobilizer and keyless-entry theft-protection behavior is not established for a particular Megane E-Tech year and market by the available vehicle-specific information. Do not infer those features from the car’s crash rating or driver aids. For a vehicle you are considering or own, check the exact owner’s manual or Renault specification for its year and market, or ask Renault to confirm the fitted equipment.
How to assess a specific car
A five-star result is useful context, but it cannot answer every configuration-specific question. When comparing cars or checking your own, confirm:
Quick Recap
- Model year, market and trim.
- Which driver-assistance systems are fitted to that vehicle.
- Whether the crash-test vehicle and protocol match the configuration you want to assess.
- That the child restraint is approved for the child and compatible with the vehicle’s seating position, and that the airbag status is correct.
- Whether any open recall applies to the vehicle’s VIN.
