To stop Grammarly in Safari on a Mac, open Safari > Settings > Extensions (or Preferences > Extensions on some versions) and turn it off. To remove it, use Safari’s Uninstall control if available, or quit and delete the Grammarly for Safari app from Applications. iPhone and iPad use separate steps.
Turn Grammarly off temporarily on a Mac
- Open Safari and choose Safari > Settings. In some versions, this menu is labeled Preferences.
- Select Extensions.
- Turn off the checkbox next to Grammarly.
This disables the extension without deleting it, so you can turn it back on from the same screen later. Apple describes the checkbox as the control for switching an extension off (Apple Support: Use Safari extensions on your Mac).
Uninstall Grammarly from Safari on a Mac
Use Safari’s Uninstall button
- In Safari, open Safari > Settings or Preferences, then choose Extensions.
- Select Grammarly.
- Click Uninstall if that control appears, then follow any on-screen prompts.
Apple’s general Safari instructions say to select an extension and click Uninstall. If the extension came with an app, Apple also says deleting that app removes the extension (Apple Support: Get extensions to customize Safari on Mac).
Remove the Grammarly for Safari app from Applications
- Quit Grammarly for Safari if it is running. If it prevents deletion, close it before continuing.
- Open Finder and select Applications.
- Move Grammarly for Safari to the Trash.
- Confirm the deletion if prompted; Grammarly’s instructions say you may be asked for your computer password.

Disable or uninstall Grammarly on iPhone or iPad
Disable the Safari extension
- Open the device’s Settings app.
- Go to Safari > Extensions.
- Turn off Grammarly.
Remove Grammarly completely
Grammarly says to remove its companion app as well to uninstall its Safari offering on iOS. Touch and hold the Grammarly app icon, choose Remove App, and confirm the removal. Safari extensions can be shared across devices, but removing an extension from one device does not uninstall it everywhere. Check Safari’s Extensions settings on each Mac, iPhone, or iPad where Grammarly is installed (Apple Support: Use Safari extensions on your Mac).
