Choose the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G if its much larger listed battery and faster wired charging are your priorities; choose a Samsung Galaxy A model by its specific tier and features. The Galaxy A17, A27, A37, and A57 are not interchangeable: the A17 and A27 support microSD cards, while the A57 is Samsung’s upper-tier model in its 2026 US comparison. These are manufacturer specifications, not proof of better battery life, camera quality, or value in everyday use.

Does the Redmi’s larger battery make it the better choice?
It gives the Redmi a clear specification advantage in capacity: Xiaomi lists a 10,000mAh typical battery, compared with Samsung’s 5,000mAh for each model in its comparison. Xiaomi also lists 100W HyperCharge and up to 27W wired reverse charging. Samsung lists up to 25W charging for the A17 and A27, and up to 45W for the A37 and A57.

Those figures do not establish how long either phone lasts in real use or how quickly it charges in every situation. Screen brightness, connectivity, apps, battery condition, and charger compatibility affect results. No matched independent endurance or charging test is established here, so treat the Redmi’s capacity and charging as on-paper advantages rather than a guaranteed runtime or charging-time outcome.
Which Galaxy A phone is closest to the Redmi?
The Galaxy A57 5G is the most direct comparison in Samsung’s 2026 A-series lineup cited here: it is the upper-tier model and has a 120Hz display, like the Redmi. The A37 also lists a 120Hz screen and up to 45W charging. The A17 and A27 are alternatives for buyers prioritizing their tier or expandable storage, rather than direct equivalents to the Redmi on every listed feature.

The family’s camera configurations also differ. Samsung lists a 12MP ultrawide on the A57, an 8MP ultrawide on the A37, and a 5MP ultrawide on the A17 and A27; the Redmi lists an 8MP ultrawide. These specifications do not show which phone takes better photos or video. Megapixel counts and lens lists cannot replace comparable image-quality testing.
Display, storage, and configuration to check
Xiaomi lists a 6.83-inch, 2772 × 1280 AMOLED display with up to 120Hz for the Redmi. Samsung lists 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED screens: 90Hz on the A17 and 120Hz on the A27, A37, and A57. The Redmi therefore has the larger and higher-resolution listed screen; the upper Samsung models also offer a 120Hz refresh rate.

For storage flexibility, Samsung’s US comparison says the A17 and A27 support microSD cards up to 2TB, while the A37 and A57 do not. Xiaomi India lists 256GB internal storage for the Redmi and does not list microSD expansion on that specification page. Check the exact local SKU and capacity before buying, especially if you keep large media files or want removable storage.
Xiaomi India lists the Redmi with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 platform, Android 16 with Xiaomi HyperOS 3, 8GB or 12GB RAM, and a 32MP front camera. Samsung’s cited comparison is a US page, so verify the specifications, memory options, model name, and network bands offered where you live.

Durability and software-support claims
Xiaomi’s global product page claims IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings and 3m drop certification. Those are Xiaomi-published claims, not an independent comparison with the Galaxy A models. An IP rating is not a reason to deliberately submerge a phone: Xiaomi says its underwater camera mode is limited to static fresh water up to 2m deep for up to 30 minutes, does not expand water resistance, and excludes seawater, pools, and hot water. How to make the buying decision
- Pick the Redmi on paper if a very large listed battery, 100W wired charging, a larger high-resolution screen, or its listed camera configuration is what you want. These specifications do not prove better everyday performance or image quality.
- Consider the Galaxy A57 if you want Samsung’s upper-tier model in the cited 2026 lineup, with a 120Hz display and a 12MP ultrawide listed by Samsung.
- Consider the A17 or A27 if microSD expansion up to 2TB matters. Samsung lists a 90Hz display on the A17 and 120Hz on the A27.
- Compare the A37 and A57 if you want a 120Hz Samsung display and up to 45W charging; both are listed without microSD expansion.
- Check local ownership details before paying: same-country price, storage configuration, warranty, service availability, carrier bands, and what is included in the box. Xiaomi says package contents can vary by region and packaging version, so do not assume a charger or case is included.
Neither cited manufacturer page establishes a current local price comparison. A value verdict therefore depends on the actual offers and configurations available to you, not just the spec sheets.
