The Xiaomi Redmi 14C 4G is a budget phone built around a roomy 6.88-inch screen with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a 5,160mAh battery. It is most appealing if you want a large display and solid battery capacity for everyday use. Its 1640×720 resolution, modest speed, heavy build and middling speaker quality are the main compromises.
Is the Xiaomi Redmi 14C worth buying?
It can be a sensible choice if your priorities are screen size, smooth scrolling and battery capacity, and you are comfortable with a lower-resolution display and entry-level performance. The 4G model has useful everyday features, including a headphone jack, microSD support and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
It is less suited to buyers who want sharp text and images, snappy app loading, strong speaker audio, a lighter phone or 5G. The available sources do not establish a current market-wide value ranking or current retail price, so compare the Redmi 14C 4G with locally available alternatives at the price you can actually buy it for.

These specifications are for the 4G Redmi 14C, not the separate Redmi 14C 5G. Xiaomi UK lists the following; configurations and connectivity may differ by region.

Xiaomi’s “up to 16GB” memory figure includes memory extension. It does not mean the phone has 16GB of physical RAM.
How good is the display?
The 6.88-inch panel gives you plenty of space for reading, browsing and video, while a refresh rate of up to 120Hz can make scrolling and supported animations look smoother than on a standard 60Hz display. That smoothness is a practical strength for a phone at this end of the market.
The trade-off is resolution: 1640×720 across such a large screen works out to 260 pixels per inch. Fine text and detailed images will not look as crisp as they do on a higher-resolution display. Choose the Redmi 14C for size and fluidity, not pixel sharpness.
How fast is it for everyday use?
The Helio G81-Ultra and the phone’s memory and storage specifications point to a budget-level experience, not a speed-focused one. Notebookcheck’s 2024 review describes the system-on-chip and memory as slow. Basic tasks may be adequate, but buyers who care about quick app launches, responsive multitasking or demanding games should treat performance as a significant compromise.
The storage type is eMMC 5.1, rather than a faster storage standard, and the listed memory is LPDDR4X. Notebookcheck’s assessment reinforces why the screen’s high refresh rate should not be mistaken for a uniformly fast phone: a smooth-looking scroll does not guarantee fast app loading or multitasking.

What are the camera and audio like?
Xiaomi lists a 50MP f/1.8 main rear camera, a 13MP f/2.0 selfie camera and rear video recording up to 1080p at 30fps. Notebookcheck judged the camera image quality positively for the phone’s price range, but that assessment does not establish how it compares with current alternatives or how it performs in every lighting condition.
Audio is a weaker point: Notebookcheck described the speaker quality as moderate. The 3.5mm headphone jack offers a wired listening option if you prefer headphones or want to avoid relying on the built-in speaker.

How long does the battery last, and how fast does it charge?
Xiaomi lists a typical battery capacity of 5,160mAh and advertises up to 22 hours of video playback. That playback figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independent test result, and should not be treated as a guaranteed runtime for mixed everyday use.
In Notebookcheck’s Wi-Fi test, its review unit ran for 16 hours and 16 minutes. That is a result from one tested phone under that publication’s test method, not a prediction for every owner; screen settings, signal strength, workload and other conditions affect battery life.
Charging is rated at up to 18W. Xiaomi UK says no power adapter is included in the box and recommends an 18W adapter that supports USB Power Delivery. Notebookcheck reported around 2 hours 15 minutes for a full charge in its testing, so the large battery is not paired with particularly rapid charging.

What did the independent review find?
Notebookcheck’s hands-on review, published on 5 December 2024, called the phone stylish, well-built and well-equipped for its price range. Its positives included the 120Hz display, camera image quality for the price, NFC and fingerprint sensor. The negatives were the phone’s weight, moderate speaker quality, slow processor and slow memory.
The review also stated that Xiaomi guaranteed software updates through 2028. That is a claim made in a review published in 2024, not confirmation of the current support policy for every region or configuration. Check Xiaomi’s current regional update policy for the specific phone before relying on a support end date.
What should you check before buying?
- Confirm the model: Make sure the listing is for the Redmi 14C 4G. The separate Redmi 14C 5G is a different model, and its specifications should not be applied to this phone.
- Check the local configuration: Xiaomi says memory and storage options vary by region. Confirm the physical RAM and storage capacity rather than relying on the “up to 16GB” memory-extension figure.
- Verify network compatibility: Check local 4G bands and operator support. Xiaomi notes that network bands and connectivity features vary by market and operator.
- Check NFC availability: Xiaomi cautions that NFC varies by market.
- Account for charging accessories: The box does not include a power adapter. If you need one, Xiaomi recommends an 18W USB Power Delivery adapter.
- Compare the real local price: Review findings and specifications alone do not establish whether the phone is a better deal than alternatives currently sold in your region.
Verdict: who is the Redmi 14C 4G for?
The Redmi 14C 4G makes the most sense for someone who wants a large, smooth-scrolling screen, substantial battery capacity and practical basics at a budget-phone level. Its headphone jack, microSD support and fingerprint sensor add useful flexibility.
Look elsewhere if you put a premium on a sharp display, quick performance, stronger speaker sound, a lighter handset or 5G. The central decision is whether screen size and battery capacity matter more to you than resolution and speed.
