Reddit plans to stop supporting its RSS feeds on November 13, 2026, and end remaining public Data API access by March 2027, according to TechCrunch’s September 30, 2026 report. If you follow Reddit communities in a general-purpose feed reader, expect those Reddit feeds to stop updating after the reported November date. The change concerns Reddit’s RSS feeds—not RSS as a technology—and the suggested Discord Relay alternative is for moderator alerts, not ordinary community subscriptions.

What Reddit is reported to be changing

TechCrunch reported on September 30, 2026 that Reddit plans two separate changes: RSS support is scheduled to end November 13, 2026, and remaining public API access is expected to end by March 2027. As of October 3, 2026, these are announced future dates, not completed shutdowns.

Access route What it provides Reported end date Who is affected Reported transition option
Reddit RSS feeds Feed updates from Reddit communities in RSS readers and other feed apps November 13, 2026 People using RSS readers for Reddit updates, including moderators using RSS alerts Discord Relay is suggested for moderator alerts in a moderator’s own community; no replacement is reported for feeds outside that context
Public Data API Programmatic access to Reddit data for apps and services By March 2027 Developers and services relying on public API access No general replacement is identified in the report

The dates and scope in the table are those reported by TechCrunch. Reddit describes RSS, in the statement quoted by the outlet, as having become a “common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse.” TechCrunch also quoted Reddit saying: “We know RSS has been a beloved part of the open web for a long time, and we’re grateful to everyone who used it to stay connected to Reddit.”

What RSS readers and subscribers should expect

RSS is a general web-feed format that lets users and apps receive updates from websites. The reported shutdown concerns Reddit’s RSS feeds, so changing from one RSS reader brand to another would not, by itself, restore updates from Reddit once those feeds stop working.

If you rely on Reddit feeds, identify which communities or searches you follow and decide whether Reddit’s own app or website meets your needs. The report does not establish that every feed URL, use case, or approved application will be treated identically; it describes Reddit’s planned end of RSS support. Check Reddit’s announcement for any scope details or exceptions before relying on a particular feed continuing.

What moderators can use instead

TechCrunch reports that Reddit recommends Discord Relay, a Reddit Developer Platform (Devvit) app, for moderator alert workflows. That is a limited fit: it is described as a way for moderators to receive alerts connected to their own community, not as a replacement for following multiple Reddit communities in an ordinary RSS reader.

Reddit describes Devvit as a platform for interactive experiences, utilities, and moderation tools. Developers and moderators considering a Devvit tool should review Reddit’s Developer Platform & Accessing Reddit Data help page for current access conditions.

What the reported API end means for developers

Reddit’s current help page says Data API access is for approved developers, is rate-limited, and requires Reddit’s permission for commercial purposes. The Data API Terms describe a limited, nonexclusive, nontransferable, revocable license; allow Reddit to set API limits; reserve the right to charge fees for future use; and require a separate agreement for commercial access and certain other uses.

The reported March 2027 endpoint change is distinct from these existing access conditions. Developers should not assume that approval under the current program guarantees access after the reported end date. Review Reddit’s current developer resources and registration guidance for updates. Registration incentives and deadlines have appeared inconsistently in available versions of Reddit’s registration page, so no bounty or deadline should be relied on without checking the live page.

How this differs from Reddit’s 2023 API changes

Reddit’s April 18, 2023 announcement said its Data API would remain open for “reasonable and appropriate use cases” through its Developer Platform, while also introducing a premium access point for third parties needing higher limits and broader usage rights. That was the position at the time; it does not override the later shutdown plan reported in 2026.

The distinction matters because the 2023 update concerned access terms and tiers, while the 2026 report describes a planned end to RSS support and remaining public API access. Reddit’s 2023 explanation is available in its April 18 API update.

What is not yet clear

The specific September 30, 2026 Reddit announcement could not be verified from a retrievable primary notice for this article. TechCrunch’s dated report is the available source for the announced dates, rationale, and moderator option. It does not settle the exact shutdown scope, whether exceptions will apply to approved applications, or whether Reddit has changed details since publication. Treat the dates as reported plans and check Reddit’s own notice for the latest terms.
