KAUZ reported that the lease was ending and that relocating the restaurant would be too expensive. The station presented this as information given to its crew; the cited reporting does not include a direct corporate announcement explaining the decision.

Is Red Robin reopening at another location?
The Wichita Falls Times Record News report republished by AOL said local employee Xander Gueli told the newspaper there were no plans to open at another location. That is an employee’s account, not confirmation from Red Robin corporate management.

What do the reported lease records say?
The Times Record News report said lease records provided to the newspaper by Forward Wichita Falls showed a 10-year lease expiring October 31, 2026. It also reported that the restaurant opened October 17, 2016. Those dates are distinct from the October 4 closing date reported by KAUZ; the available accounts do not explain why the scheduled closing precedes the reported lease expiration. The newspaper also reported that Forward Wichita Falls CEO Moriah Williams said her organization had not been notified of the closure.
Is this part of Red Robin’s broader refranchising announcement?
Red Robin’s June 15, 2026 investor release announced two refranchising agreements covering 86 company-owned restaurants for an announced aggregate $72.5 million. The company said the transactions were intended to support its First Choice Plan and remained subject to customary due diligence, adjustments, and closing conditions. The release does not connect the Wichita Falls restaurant’s reported lease-driven closure to those agreements, so the two developments should not be treated as the same event.
