A Realtek Bluetooth driver lets Windows communicate with a supported Realtek Bluetooth radio, but there is no single driver that fits every PC. Identify your Bluetooth adapter and computer model first, then use Windows Update or the computer maker’s support page. A direct Realtek download is appropriate only when its chip family and Windows listing match your hardware.
What a Realtek Bluetooth driver does
A driver is the software connection between Windows and a hardware device. If your PC has a Realtek Bluetooth radio, Windows needs a compatible driver to detect and use it. Many Realtek parts combine Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but their drivers may be separate: Realtek says the RTL8723BE, RTL8821AE, RTL8822BE, RTL8821CE, and RTL8723DE are WLAN/Bluetooth combo solutions that need both WLAN and Bluetooth drivers.
“Bluetooth USB Driver” in a Realtek package description does not necessarily mean the package is for a retail USB dongle. On Realtek’s RTL8821AE page, that wording describes a Bluetooth driver package for the chip family. Always match the package to the actual adapter and PC, not just the word “Realtek.”

- Find your PC’s exact model. Check the computer’s label or system information for the manufacturer and full model or service identifier. Visit the manufacturer’s official support page and look for drivers for that exact computer.
- Check the Windows version. Confirm which version of Windows is installed before choosing a package; a driver’s compatibility listing matters.
- Inspect Device Manager. Open Device Manager and expand Bluetooth to see the adapter name. If the category is absent, look under Other devices for an unidentified device and check the PC specifications to see whether Bluetooth hardware is included.
A missing Bluetooth category does not by itself prove that the driver is the problem: some PCs do not have Bluetooth hardware. Microsoft’s guide to fixing Bluetooth problems in Windows includes steps for checking whether Bluetooth is available on the PC.

Choose a driver source that matches the PC

Microsoft explains how to get driver updates through Windows Update. If the update route does not find the right driver, Microsoft advises checking the PC manufacturer’s site. Avoid third-party driver-download sites, which may offer a package that does not fit the hardware or Windows installation.
Why Realtek packages are not interchangeable
Realtek organizes drivers by product family and interface, rather than providing one universal Bluetooth package. For example, the company’s RTL8821AE software page describes a Bluetooth USB install package for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. The page displays version 1.4.887.3011, dated April 19, 2017, and a page update date of August 22, 2018. Those are historical listing details, not evidence that the package is current or correct for a particular PC today.

The RTL8723BS software page covers an SDIO WLAN family and identifies RTL8723BS/RTL8723DS as WLAN/Bluetooth combo solutions requiring both drivers. Its displayed Windows 10 entries include WLAN SDIO version 3008.54.0414.2017 and Bluetooth UART version 1.0.245.3, dated May 8, 2017; the page date shown is August 3, 2018. The interface and chip family differ from the RTL8821AE example, illustrating why a package should not be selected by brand name alone.

- What Can I do if the Bluetooth adapter can not work?: Ensure there are no other Bluetooth devices installed on the computer. If there are, disable all existing Bluetooth devices in "Device Manager", then insert the adapter and try again. (For detailed information please read the user manual)
Install the matching driver
- Use Windows Update or Device Manager to check for an available driver update. Microsoft’s Bluetooth troubleshooting guide also describes updating or reinstalling an adapter driver.
- If no suitable driver is found, open the official support page for your exact PC model and select a Bluetooth driver compatible with your Windows version.
- If downloading directly from Realtek, confirm the chip family and Windows version on the product page. For a combo device, check whether the WLAN driver is a separate download.
- Run the package installer and follow its prompts; restart the PC if requested. For a manual INF package, use Device Manager’s Browse my computer for drivers option and select the folder containing the matching driver.
Do not install a package simply because its title includes “Realtek.” A wrong-family or incompatible driver may not resolve the issue, and Windows may continue to report that no suitable driver is available.
Troubleshoot by symptom
Bluetooth toggle or icon is missing
- Check the PC specifications to confirm that Bluetooth hardware is included.
- Look in Device Manager under Bluetooth and Other devices.
- Check whether airplane mode or another radio setting has disabled wireless connections.
- If the radio is not detected, investigate hardware availability or failure rather than assuming a driver update alone will help.
A device is not discovered or will not pair
- Make sure the accessory is powered on, charged, in pairing mode, and within range.
- Turn Bluetooth off and on again. If the accessory is already listed but will not connect, remove it from Windows and pair it again.
- Use the Windows Bluetooth troubleshooter and check for Windows updates. Microsoft’s Windows 10 Bluetooth troubleshooting steps cover connection checks and driver actions.
The problem began after a Windows upgrade or update
Check Device Manager for a driver compatible with the current Windows version, then check the PC manufacturer’s support page. A driver designed for an earlier Windows version may not work correctly after an upgrade.

Reinstalling the driver does not help
Recheck the full PC model and adapter identity, then use model-specific manufacturer support. A generic Realtek package is not a reliable fix if it does not match the installed chip, interface, or Windows version.
When a USB Bluetooth adapter may help
If the PC has no Bluetooth capability, or its internal radio cannot be used, a separate USB Bluetooth adapter may be an option. Verify that the adapter supports your Windows version and computer. It is a hardware alternative, not a Realtek driver, and it will not automatically correct a mismatched driver on an otherwise working internal adapter.
