On manufacturer specifications alone, the realme 16 Pro 5G stands out for its 144Hz display, 200MP main camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), and 7000mAh battery with 80W charging on realme’s Global page. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G’s official UK page leads with display brightness and recommends a 100W charger. Neither set of specifications shows which phone performs better in daily use, and no like-for-like price gap has been verified. The answer depends on the country you buy in and the memory configuration you choose, because realme’s own pages list different battery and charging figures by region.
Start with the market and configuration
Both phones are documented 5G devices with official manufacturer pages, but those pages describe different markets. The table below shows what each page states. Where a value is missing from the page checked on 7 October 2026, the cell says so rather than filling it in.
| Page or market | Memory and storage listed | Battery | Charging |
|---|---|---|---|
| realme 16 Pro 5G, Global specification page | 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB | 7000mAh typical | 80W Ultra Charge |
| realme 16 Pro 5G, Europe product page | Not stated on the checked page | 6500mAh | 45W |
| Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G, UK specification page | Not stated on the checked page | Not stated on the checked page | Recommends a 100W PD-compatible adapter or Xiaomi’s official 100W adapter |
| Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G, Spain (Cinco Días report, 17 September 2026) | 8GB/256GB and 8GB/512GB | Not stated in the report | Not stated in the report |
The realme Global page is the most complete source for hardware, but it is not a guaranteed match for every retail unit. The same applies to the Xiaomi UK page: it describes UK specifications and does not establish what is sold in other countries.

Display
The two screens differ mainly in the figures each manufacturer chooses to publish. realme gives refresh rate and panel type; Xiaomi gives brightness and colour depth.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.78 inches, AMOLED, 1B colors, 6.78 inches
- 256GB Storage, 8GB RAM
- Android 16, Mediatek Dimensity 7300 Max (4 nm), Mediatek Dimensity 7300 Max (4 nm)
- Rear: 200 MP, f/1.9, 23mm (wide), 1/1.56", 0.5µm, dual-pixel PDAF, OIS, 8 MP, 112˚, (ultrawide), 1/4.0", 1.12µm, Front: 50 MP, f/2.4, 23mm (wide), 1/2.88", 0.61µm
| Feature | realme 16 Pro 5G (Global page) | Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G (UK page) |
|---|---|---|
| Screen size | 6.78-inch | 6.83-inch |
| Resolution | FHD+ | Not stated on the checked page |
| Panel type | AMOLED | Not stated on the checked page |
| Refresh rate | Up to 144Hz | Not stated on the checked page |
| Brightness | Not stated on the checked page | Up to 3500 nits (UHBM peak), 2000 nits (HBM), 1060 nits typical |
| Colour depth | Not stated on the checked page | 12-bit |
| Front glass | Not stated on the checked page | Gorilla Glass Victus 2 |
The brightness figures are Xiaomi’s own claims, not independent measurements. A higher peak number does not by itself mean a screen is easier to read outdoors, because that depends on how long the brightness can be sustained and on the software’s tone mapping.
Cameras
realme’s Global product page lists a 200MP main rear camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP front camera. Xiaomi’s UK specification page, as checked, does not give comparable camera hardware, so a side-by-side camera comparison cannot be made from these two pages. Megapixel counts and stabilisation type are only the starting point; sensor size, lens quality and processing decide the results, and those are not established by either manufacturer page.

Chipset and performance
The realme 16 Pro 5G uses the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Max 5G chipset according to realme’s Global page. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G’s UK page does not name its chipset in the material checked. Without that detail and without independent benchmarks, it is not possible to say which phone is faster or which sustains higher gaming frame rates.
Manufacturer specifications establish what each company says the hardware contains. They do not establish real-world battery life, camera quality, gaming performance or overall value. Those points need independent reviews or your own testing before you buy.

Why regional battery and charging figures matter
realme publishes different battery and charging figures for the same model depending on region. Its Global page gives 7000mAh and 80W Ultra Charge. Its Europe product page gives 6500mAh and 45W charging. If you are comparing prices, you need the figures from the page for the exact country you plan to buy in, not the Global headline numbers. The Global product page also advertises IP69 water and dust resistance. That is a manufacturer claim, and the pages checked do not provide independent test results for it.
What is in the box
- realme 16 Pro 5G: The Global specification page lists a charger and a protective case in the box, with a note that contents vary by market.
- Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G, India: The Xiaomi India page lists an adapter, a USB Type-C cable, a SIM eject tool, a protective case, and a quick-start and warranty guide. The page states that the package list is for reference only.
- Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G, UK: The package contents are not stated on the checked UK page.
Check the listing for your country before buying a separate charger or case. If a charger is included, confirm its wattage against the charging figure for your region.

Network, software and durability
- Software: realme’s Global page lists realme UI 7.0. Xiaomi’s UK page does not state the software version in the material checked.
- Update commitments: Neither checked manufacturer page states an update policy, so do not assume a specific number of OS or security updates.
- Network bands: Xiaomi’s UK page says its network bands and connectivity support depend on regional availability and operator support. Check the band list against your carrier before you buy. The realme material checked does not cover this point.
- Water and dust resistance: realme’s Global product page advertises IP69. The Xiaomi pages checked do not state an IP rating.
Price: what can and cannot be compared
The Cinco Días report of 17 September 2026 gives Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G launch prices in Spain of €599.99 for 8GB/256GB and €649.99 for 8GB/512GB. These figures apply to Spain at that date and are not current global prices. No realme price for the same market and memory configuration was established, so no price difference can be calculated. The phrase “price difference” in a search does not, by itself, mean a difference has been verified.
To build a fair price comparison, follow these steps:
- Choose one country and check both brands’ official local store pages on the same day.
- Match memory and storage exactly. realme’s Global page lists 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB options that the Spain report does not show for Xiaomi.
- Record the list price, then note any launch offer, bundle or discount with its end date.
- Check whether a charger and case are included at that price, using the package details for your country.
- Compare retailer prices only after confirming the same model variant and warranty terms.
Choosing between them
Choose the realme 16 Pro 5G if the 144Hz display, 200MP camera with OIS, and high-capacity battery matter most, and if your local listing confirms the battery and charging figures you need. Choose the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G if its display brightness claims, its 100W charging recommendation, or its available storage options in your market suit you better, and if its network bands work with your carrier. For a verdict on speed, camera quality or battery endurance, look for independent testing, because these pages do not provide it.
