Júnior Firpo was substituted in the 10th minute of the Dominican Republic’s 1–4 defeat to Haiti, but the reports available on 2 October 2026 did not confirm a specific injury or how long he might be out. Contemporary coverage attributed his exit to physical discomfort; his diagnosis and availability remained unconfirmed.
What happened against Haiti?
Firpo started for the Dominican Republic at the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo and left after roughly 10 minutes. Mundo Deportivo reported that Peter Federico replaced him in the 10th minute, shortly after Haiti scored in the ninth minute. The Dominican Republic went on to lose 1–4. Dorny Romero scored for the hosts in the 55th minute; Haiti’s scorers were Wilson Isidor, with two goals, and Yassin Fortuné. Mundo Deportivo and AS both reported the early substitution.
Was Firpo injured, and how long could he be out?
The reports described physical discomfort, but did not establish a diagnosis. As of the reports dated 2 October 2026, there was no published official medical assessment, test result, severity determination, or return date. Mundo Deportivo said Betis would await medical tests and the Dominican medical staff’s assessment; El Desmarque also reported that no medical report had been issued at publication.
Accordingly, the confirmed reporting is that Firpo left the match early after experiencing physical discomfort. It does not confirm a muscle injury or that he will miss any particular fixture. El Desmarque attributed a history of four muscular injuries and up to 20 missed matches since Firpo arrived in summer 2025 to its own reporting; it did not present those figures as an official club record.

What does this mean for Real Betis?
The concern is relevant to Betis because the club’s left-back options and fixture schedule were part of the contemporary coverage. AS reported that Betis had signed Fran García and had four consecutive matches at La Cartuja across league and Champions League play. It also said Firpo might still be fit for upcoming fixtures, but that was a possibility, not a medical clearance.
El Desmarque described Betis as short of options at left-back during the international window, citing Firpo’s situation, García’s national-team duty, Aitor Ruibal’s unavailability, and the possible use of Valentín Gómez or reserve players. Those were squad-availability snapshots from 2 October 2026, not a current injury or selection update.

What to look for in an update
- A diagnosis or test result attributed to Betis or the Dominican Republic’s medical staff.
- A stated return estimate or a confirmed availability decision for a specific match.
- The source and publication time: an early report of discomfort is not equivalent to an official medical update.
Without a later club or national-team update, Firpo’s status should be described as physical discomfort reported, with diagnosis and availability unconfirmed.
