Android Authority’s October 8, 2026 reader poll named the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G the best Android phone with microSD storage. It won with 25.9% of just over 1,500 votes, but the race was close: the Motorola G Stylus (2026) took 23.7% and the Sony Xperia 10 VII took 22.4%. The poll reflects what readers preferred among six candidates. It is not an independent test, and it does not tell you which phone is best for your region, budget, or carrier.
How the poll turned out
The poll asked readers, “Which Android phone with a microSD card slot would you buy?” It drew just over 1,500 votes across six phones from Samsung, Motorola, Sony, and TCL.
| Rank | Phone | Share of votes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Samsung Galaxy A55 5G | 25.9% |
| 2 | Motorola G Stylus (2026) | 23.7% |
| 3 | Sony Xperia 10 VII | 22.4% |
| 4 | Moto G Power (2025) | 9.9% |
| 5 | Samsung Galaxy A17 5G | 9.3% |
| 6 | TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro | 8.8% |
The Galaxy A55 led the Moto G Stylus by 2.2 percentage points and the Xperia 10 VII by 3.5 points. A shift of a few hundred votes could have changed the top spot, so the result is best read as “the most-picked phone among these three,” not a clear winner.

Android Authority’s buying guide says the Galaxy A55 5G accepts a microSD card of up to 1TB. A separate review lists 128GB and 256GB internal storage options with the same 1TB expansion ceiling.

The hybrid SIM tray trade-off
The card goes into a hybrid tray, where the second SIM slot can also hold the card. If you use dual SIM, you cannot use both at once. Decide before you buy whether you need a second line or more storage.
Availability in the US
Samsung did not officially launch the A55 in the United States, according to both the buying guide and the review. The guide said a 128GB variant could be found through Amazon sellers when it was published. Third-party listings change quickly, so check the seller, the exact model and regional variant, the carrier and network band support, and current stock before ordering. Do not rely on an older price or listing.
Other trade-offs to weigh
- The review cites four major Android OS updates and five years of security updates.
- It lists no wireless charging and no Galaxy AI features.
- It identifies camera limitations.
These points come from the review and the buying guide at the time of publication. Confirm current update schedules with Samsung before buying.

How the other five poll phones compare
The buying guide gives each runner-up a clear use case. Use the table to match your priorities, then check the availability notes.
| Phone | Reported microSD support | What stands out | Availability note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motorola G Stylus (2026) | Expandable storage; capacity not stated in the guide | Active stylus for note-taking and sketching; the guide says it costs more than the 2025 model | Not stated |
| Sony Xperia 10 VII | Up to 2TB | Compact 6.1-inch screen | Not officially sold in the US, per the guide |
| Moto G Power (2025) | Not stated | IP68/IP69 ratings and a 5,000mAh battery, aimed at value and durability | Not stated |
| Samsung Galaxy A17 5G | Not stated | Entry price and a six-year update commitment; the guide also notes performance limits | Not stated |

How to choose the right microSD phone
Use the poll as a shortlist, then work through these checks in order:
Rank #3
- 25W Samsung Super Fast Charger Included, 6.7" FHD+ Super AMOLED, 120Hz, HDR10+, 1080x2340px, Fingerprint (under display, optical), IP67 dust and water resistance
- 256GB, 8GB, No SD Card Slot, Exynos 1580 (4nm), Octa-core, Xclipse 540 GPU, Android 15, up to 6 major Android upgrades, One UI 7
- Rear Camera: 50MP, f/1.8 + 12MP, f/2.2 + 5MP, f/2.4, Front Camera: 12MP, f/2.2, 5000mAh Battery, Bluetooth 5.3
- Confirm the phone is sold where you live. Check the official regional page or a trusted local retailer. The A55 and the Sony Xperia 10 VII both have US availability caveats.
- Match the card slot to your SIM needs. If you need two SIMs at once, a hybrid tray that shares the slot is a constraint.
- Check the maximum card size. The A55 supports up to 1TB, the Sony and TCL phones up to 2TB, according to the guide. Confirm the figure in the manufacturer’s specifications before buying a large card.
- Weigh the feature that matters most. Choose the stylus for notes, the NXTPAPER display for reading, the IP68/IP69 rating for rough use, or the compact size for one-hand use.
- Check the current price and update policy. Prices and support periods change. Confirm them on the manufacturer or carrier site on the day you buy.
What the poll does and does not show
The poll measures reader preference among six phones in a single online vote. It does not measure market share, does not test performance, and does not show how well each phone performs with a microSD card in daily use. Treat the 25.9% as a signal of reader interest, not as proof that the Galaxy A55 is the best choice for everyone.

Readers can add their own view in the poll’s closing question: “Do you think manufacturers should launch more devices with expandable storage?”
In short, the A55 won on reader preference, but check regional availability, the hybrid SIM trade-off, and the current price before you buy.

If you want the 1TB ceiling of the A55 instead of the 2TB ceilings of the Xperia or NXTPAPER phones, a 1TB card is the largest you can use in that phone.
