The Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro is a capable full-size wireless mechanical gaming keyboard if you want a number pad, dedicated media controls, and the choice of 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth, or USB-C wired connections. Its main compromises are its large footprint, short manufacturer-estimated battery life with bright lighting, and a sound-and-feel concern specific to the Green-switch version tested by RTINGS. It is an older model, too: RTINGS says the BlackWidow V4 Pro replaced it, so compare current options and prices before buying.
What are the BlackWidow V3 Pro’s main pros and cons?
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Three connection modes: 2.4 GHz HyperSpeed, Bluetooth, and USB-C wired | Large, heavy full-size design takes up substantial desk space |
| RTINGS found it outstanding for gaming, citing low latency and low pre-travel | RTINGS found inconsistent sound and feel in the Green-switch sample it tested |
| Number pad, four media buttons, multifunction dial, RGB, and programmable keys | Manufacturer battery estimates drop sharply when backlighting is enabled |
| Detachable plush wrist rest and good build quality noted by RTINGS | Doubleshot ABS keycaps, no USB pass-through, and no 1000 Hz ultrapolling, according to Razer |
| Bluetooth can connect up to three devices, according to Razer | RTINGS says its companion software is limited to Windows; the V3 Pro has been superseded |
What does the keyboard offer?
The BlackWidow V3 Pro is model RZ03-03530. Razer lists it with either Green mechanical switches or Yellow mechanical switches. It has a full-size layout with a number pad, four dedicated media buttons, and a multifunction dial, along with individually lit keys, Chroma RGB, programmable keys, and five onboard profiles. The supplied wrist rest detaches.
Razer lists the keyboard at 1,423 g and 450.70 × 248.40 × 42.30 mm. Those dimensions reflect a feature-rich desktop board, not a compact option: the number pad and controls are useful if you want them, but take up room. RTINGS also describes it as too large for travel.
Razer specifies doubleshot ABS keycaps, a detachable 2 m braided fiber USB-C cable, and an 80-million-click switch lifespan rating. The lifespan is a manufacturer rating, not independent durability-test evidence. Check layout and compatibility before buying replacement keycaps or a cable.
#1 Best Overall
- Aluminum Build That Won't Wobble - A tank-solid brushed aluminum board keeps every keystroke steady during intense sessions, unlike the flex you get from plastic-frame keyboards.
- Switch Devices Without Re-Pairing, Zero Lag - Tri-mode connectivity jumps between USB-C, Bluetooth, and 2.4GHz wireless with near-wired responsiveness, so going wireless doesn't cost you speed.
- Swap Switches Without Soldering, Smooth and Quiet - Quiet linear switches give a clean, low-noise keystroke, and the upgraded socket accepts almost any 3-pin or 5-pin switch.
- Vibrant RGB for a True eSports Vibe - 20 preset lighting modes with adjustable brightness and flow speed give your desk the glow of a dedicated gaming rig.
- Pro Software for Even Deeper Customization - Want to go beyond the onboard presets? The companion software lets you design custom RGB effects and program macros with your own keybindings.
How do its wireless and wired modes compare?
| Mode | What it is useful for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| 2.4 GHz HyperSpeed | Razer positions this wireless mode for gaming. | Independent RTINGS testing found low latency, but that does not guarantee identical performance in every setup. |
| Bluetooth | Convenient for connecting to other devices without using the USB-C cable. | Razer says it can connect to as many as three devices. |
| USB-C wired | Use the included detachable cable for a direct wired connection. | The cable is listed as 2 m long. Razer’s support specifications say the keyboard has no USB pass-through. |
Choose a mode based on how you use the keyboard: HyperSpeed for Razer’s intended gaming wireless use, Bluetooth for device flexibility, or USB-C when you prefer a cable. Do not assume the same wireless behavior across different devices and environments.
How long does the battery last with RGB on?
Razer’s support specifications, updated July 31, 2026, give condition-specific maximum estimates: up to 200 hours with backlighting off, about 14 hours with white backlighting at 50% brightness, and about 6 hours with white backlighting at 100% brightness. These are manufacturer estimates, not independent runtime measurements. The 200-hour figure applies with the lights off, so it is not a realistic guide if you plan to keep bright lighting enabled.

If frequent charging would bother you, plan around the lighting setting you expect to use rather than the backlight-off maximum. Razer’s figures specify white backlighting; they do not establish runtime for every RGB effect or brightness pattern.

Razer offers clicky Green and linear Yellow mechanical switches. RTINGS’ sound-and-feel criticism applies to the Green variant it tested; it should not be presented as a finding about the Yellow version. If noise and switch feel matter, try the specific variant before buying when possible. Razer’s descriptions identify the switch types, but the available independent review does not establish how the Yellow version performs.

What did independent testing find?
RTINGS’ review, published October 14, 2020 and updated on its test bench November 29, 2023, calls the V3 Pro outstanding for gaming. Its positives include exceptionally low latency, low pre-travel, full RGB lighting, macro-programmable keys, good build quality, and a plush detachable wrist rest. Its principal switch criticism was that the tested Green switches were inconsistent in both sound and feel.
Tom’s Hardware reported a separate low-battery observation in its September 28, 2020 review: RGB became dim and erratic, and key registration incurred delays of one to two seconds. That is one review’s experience from 2020, not proof of a universal defect or of current firmware behavior.

- Pro Software for Even Deeper Customization - Design your own lighting effects and program advanced macros with custom keybindings, so the board adapts to how you work or play.
Is the BlackWidow V3 Pro worth buying?
It makes the most sense for someone who wants a full-size keyboard with dedicated controls and all three connection options, and who is comfortable with its size and lighting-dependent battery estimates. It is a weaker fit if you need a compact board, quiet switches, USB pass-through, or sustained RGB use between charges. Razer lists ABS keycaps, so buyers specifically seeking PBT caps should factor that in rather than assume the board includes them.

The V3 Pro is no longer the newest model in its line: RTINGS says it was replaced by the BlackWidow V4 Pro. Current street price and stock are not established here. Compare the exact switch variant and current price against available alternatives rather than treating an older review or launch-era positioning as a current value verdict.
