RAW is a dating app built around a daily, in-app photo prompt. Users capture themselves and their surroundings with the front and rear cameras, then use those recent updates in the dating feed. The design is intended to show everyday life instead of relying only on old, edited profile photos. Its chat rules also limit starting new conversations while earlier chats remain unanswered. However, current availability is unclear: an indexed Apple listing describes the dating app, while AppBrain reports that its older iOS app was removed on April 18, 2026. Check your local app store before assuming RAW can be downloaded.
What is the RAW dating app?
RAW is a mobile dating service whose defining feature is a changing daily prompt to take a current photo inside the app. The capture uses both the front and rear cameras, giving a simultaneous view of the user and their surroundings. RAW then presents these updates as part of the dating experience.
A Grit Daily feature updated June 30, 2023 described RAW as a service aimed at young creative New Yorkers and identified Marina Anderson as a co-founder. Those details are historical context, not confirmation of the app’s current audience, leadership or operating status.

Daily dual-camera updates
The app asks users to make a fresh in-app capture rather than relying solely on uploaded gallery images. Prompt timing changes from day to day, according to RAW’s descriptions, so users cannot simply prepare one image at a convenient fixed time. The intended benefit is more immediate context about a person’s ordinary routine.

Browsing and matching
The 2023 description presents RAW as a swipe-based dating app. The daily images become part of what other users see when considering a potential match. The camera format may make heavily staged or outdated photos less central, but it does not establish a person’s identity by itself.
Limits on unanswered chats
RAW says users can be restricted from starting additional conversations while existing chats remain unanswered. The product goal is to reduce the habit of opening many conversations and abandoning them. Users are also described as having unmatch, report and block controls.
Does RAW really prevent fake profiles, scams or ghosting?
Not on the evidence available. The dual-camera prompt and unanswered-chat limit are product design choices, not independently demonstrated safety results. The reviewed sources do not provide fraud rates, moderation statistics, identity-verification audits, controlled comparisons, or measured reductions in ghosting.

Marina Anderson was quoted in the 2023 Grit Daily feature saying, “With RAW, you don’t lose yourself in a maze of “verified” profiles that make you question your own realness. No more high school kids pretending to be millionaires. No more “celebrity” profiles asking for money. It’s over. And know that when you get 100 matches on RAW, they’re all real.” This is promotional language attributed to a co-founder, not independently verified evidence.
The same article quotes Anderson saying, “RAW is not another fake dating app. We’ve had enough of fakes, filters, and ghosting. That’s why we brought back what matters most in dating: love.” It should likewise be read as the company’s positioning rather than a guarantee that every account is genuine or every conversation receives a reply.
RAW’s claimed features and their limits
| Feature | What the product descriptions say | What that does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Dual-camera daily prompt | Users take current front- and rear-camera photos in the app; prompt timing changes. | It does not verify identity or prove that an image is unedited. |
| Unanswered-chat limit | Starting new chats may be restricted until earlier conversations are addressed. | It does not guarantee a reply, prevent all ghosting, or measure conversation quality. |
| Report, block and unmatch | Users have controls to end contact or flag accounts. | The available sources do not state response times, enforcement rates or moderation staffing. |
| “Real people” positioning | Company promotion presents RAW as an alternative to fake profiles and heavily filtered images. | No independent user, fraud or match-outcome statistics were established. |
Is RAW still available?
Availability is unsettled and may differ by country and device. An indexed New Zealand Apple App Store page for “RAW – Date 100% real people” identifies Techlead Limited as the developer and describes the dating app’s camera and paid features. AppBrain, however, reports that the older iOS app was removed on April 18, 2026 and records its last version and update information.

Do not confuse RAW with RAW Moments
Apple also lists “RAW Moments,” a separate social photo app by Ien Meier. That listing is not evidence that the RAW dating service is currently operating. Confirm the app’s purpose and developer rather than relying on the shared name.

Who might find RAW useful?
- People who prefer current context: the daily capture emphasizes what someone is doing now rather than a static gallery.
- Users frustrated by overloaded chat lists: the unanswered-conversation rule is intended to discourage starting more chats than a person can handle.
- People comfortable with frequent posting: the concept depends on making regular in-app updates and sharing more of ordinary life.
It may be a poor fit if you want a conventional profile built from selected photos, do not want to post daily, or require independently verified identity and safety metrics.
Safety checks if you use any dating app
- Keep conversations in the app until you are comfortable with the person.
- Never send money, gift cards, account credentials or intimate images under pressure.
- Use report, block and unmatch tools when behavior becomes abusive, deceptive or threatening.
- Arrange a first meeting in a public place and tell someone you trust where you will be.
- Treat a live photo prompt as one signal, not proof of identity or good intentions.
What is established—and what is not
Established descriptions identify RAW’s daily front-and-rear-camera prompt, changing prompt times, swipe-style discovery and controls for unanswered chats, reporting, blocking and unmatching. The available material does not establish the app’s current worldwide availability, active user count, fraud rate, moderation performance, match success rate or effect on ghosting. Those are questions to check against current local store information and any new, independently documented evidence.
