Ravi Bishnoi took 1 wicket for 12 runs in four overs in the 2023 Asian Games men’s cricket final. That economical spell does not show his bowling had stalled: Afghanistan were 112/5 after 18.2 overs when the match was abandoned with no result, and India never batted. One unfinished match cannot establish a wider decline.
What did Bishnoi’s figures in the Asian Games final actually show?
In the final against Afghanistan on 7 October 2023 in Hangzhou, Bishnoi bowled four overs without a maiden, conceded 12 runs and took one wicket, for an economy rate of 3.00. The ESPNcricinfo scorecard records his wicket as Afsar Zazai, bowled for 15 from 20 balls. The ABP Live scorecard also records a run-out involving Bishnoi.

Afghanistan had reached 112/5 in 18.2 overs when play ended. The match was abandoned with no result. Since India did not bat, there was no completed chase or match result from which to judge Bishnoi’s impact on an Indian performance. His figures describe a restrained, wicket-taking spell; they do not, by themselves, indicate a collapse in form.
Can one final prove that his numbers are moving backwards?
No. A claim of decline needs comparable records across seasons in the same format and role. The final supplies one T20 match’s bowling figures, not a season-by-season trend. It cannot establish whether Bishnoi’s results were improving or worsening over time.

A meaningful comparison would set out, at minimum, season, matches and innings, overs, wickets, bowling average, economy and strike rate. T20Is and the IPL should be treated separately, and any trend should have a clear cutoff date. Small samples and changes in opposition, venue or bowling role also matter; they should not be treated as explanations without supporting evidence.

A youth-tournament milestone
Rajasthan Royals’ profile says Bishnoi took 17 wickets at the 2020 Under-19 World Cup, the tournament’s highest tally. That is a dated youth-cricket achievement, not a like-for-like benchmark for his later senior T20 bowling.

A reported T20I ranking peak
A December 2023 report by The Odisha Post says Bishnoi rose to the top of the ICC men’s T20I bowling rankings after India’s T20I series against Australia. This is a historical ranking claim, not a statement of his current position. Rankings, Under-19 tournament wickets and a single Asian Games spell measure different things, so none alone proves or disproves a present-day trend.
