The RatShack RCA STAV-4090 deal was a short-lived March 4–6, 2003 promotion for an early-2000s 5.1-channel A/V receiver. An AnandTech Forums thread identified the RadioShack model as the same receiver as Pioneer’s VSX-D711, but that equivalence was a forum claim rather than an independently verified RadioShack document. The $200 figure is historical and says nothing about a receiver’s condition, availability, or value today.
What the original offer covered
AnandTech Forums user started the discussion on March 2, 2003, with a title advertising a $200 RadioShack offer running March 4 through March 6. Posters described March 6 as the final day and one participant said the same $200 offer had appeared earlier that year. These are archived forum reports, not an official RadioShack circular.
Another poster asked whether the RCA STAV-4090 was a Pioneer VSX-D711. The thread starter said it was “exactly the same,” and a later reply said a quick specification check looked identical. That establishes what the community claimed at the time, not a definitive manufacturer confirmation.

Pioneer’s operating instructions describe the VSX-D711 as an audio/video multi-channel receiver and provide a dedicated 5.1-speaker connection section. The same documentation marks surround-back and related sixth-channel settings as “D811S only,” distinguishing the D711 from the companion VSX-D811S.

Core specifications
| Item | VSX-D711 documentation |
|---|---|
| Speaker configuration | 5.1-channel setup |
| Rear digital inputs | Three: two coaxial and one optical |
| Video connections | Composite video, S-video, and component-video input assignment |
| Audio connections | Standard analog inputs and multi-channel analog input |
| Listed output | 100 W per channel at 1 kHz, 1.0% THD, 8 ohms |
| Continuous average output | 100 W per channel at 8 ohms, 20 Hz–20 kHz, with no more than 0.2% THD for the front channel |
| Dimensions | 420 × 158 × 401 mm (16-9/16 × 6-4/16 × 15-6/16 inches) |
| Power consumption | 260 W / 340 VA |
How to interpret the power ratings
The two 100-watt figures are not interchangeable. The first is specified at 1 kHz with 1.0% total harmonic distortion; the second is a 20 Hz–20 kHz continuous-average statement at 8 ohms with no more than 0.2% distortion for the front channel. Comparing either number directly with a modern receiver rating can be misleading when the test conditions differ.
Inputs and period-appropriate use
Three rear digital inputs—two coaxial and one optical—would have supported common DVD players, CD players, and other digital sources of the period. The receiver also provided composite and S-video, component-video assignment, conventional analog inputs, and a multi-channel analog input. The documentation does not establish HDMI, 4K switching, network audio, or any other modern feature, so those capabilities should not be assumed.

How it differed from the VSX-D811S
| Feature | VSX-D711 | VSX-D811S |
|---|---|---|
| Documented speaker setup | 5.1 channels | Includes surround-back configuration |
| Rear digital inputs | Three: two coaxial, one optical | Four, according to the period comparison |
| Setup features | Standard D711 functions | Additional functions marked “D811S only” in the instructions |
The forum discussion speculated about the differences and mentioned shared manuals. The operating instructions are the stronger basis for the input count and model-specific feature labels.
What the $200 price means now
The receiver documentation is dated to the early 2000s: the service material is marked Pioneer Corporation 2002, and the deal discussion is from 2003. Nothing in the cited record establishes current inventory, working condition, resale value, or an active RadioShack offer. A surviving unit would need an individual inspection for power-up behavior, display and control operation, input switching, speaker-channel output, and age-related faults before its price could be judged.

Bottom line for identifying the deal
This title refers to a historical RadioShack promotion for a 5.1-channel receiver that forum participants associated with Pioneer’s VSX-D711. The Pioneer manual supports the D711’s three digital inputs, legacy analog/video connectivity, 5.1 layout, and condition-specific 100-watt ratings. It does not independently prove that every RCA STAV-4090 was identical to the Pioneer model, and the 2003 $200 offer is not a current buying recommendation.
