Raspberry Pi is already a public company: Raspberry Pi Holdings plc listed on the London Stock Exchange in June 2024. Its shares were admitted to the LSE Main Market under ticker RPI on 14 June 2024.
Is Raspberry Pi going public?
It already has. On 11 June 2024, co-founder Eben Upton announced that Raspberry Pi had listed as Raspberry Pi Holdings plc. The company’s 14 June 2024 admission notice confirms that 193,415,715 ordinary shares were admitted to the Financial Conduct Authority’s premium listing segment and the London Stock Exchange Main Market under ticker RPI.
Upton described the listing as “a watershed moment for Raspberry Pi” and said access to public markets would enable the company to build products faster. That was the company’s stated outlook at the time, not a guarantee of any particular business result. Read the issuer’s IPO announcement.
What happened in Raspberry Pi’s IPO?
The May 2024 offer combined newly issued shares with existing shares sold by certain shareholders. The company said the new shares were intended to raise $40 million; the overall offer was not limited to that amount. The issuer’s 22 May 2024 confirmed intention-to-float announcement said net proceeds from the new shares were planned for engineering capital expenditure, supply-chain resilience, and general corporate purposes.

| Part of the offer | What it did |
|---|---|
| Newly issued shares | Were intended to raise $40 million for the company, with proceeds planned for the purposes it stated in May 2024. |
| Existing shares | Were sold by certain shareholders, transferring ownership; these sales did not raise that same new capital for the company. |
The $40 million figure refers to the intended proceeds from new shares in the 2024 announcement. It is not the value of the whole offer or a current financing figure.
What does Raspberry Pi Holdings do?
Raspberry Pi Holdings designs and develops low-cost, high-performance single-board computers and compute modules. Its customers include industrial Internet of Things and embedded-computing businesses, as well as enthusiasts and educators. The company’s 15 May 2024 announcement reported that it had sold more than 60 million single-board computers and compute modules since it began trading in 2012, including 7.4 million during 2023. Those are company-reported figures published in 2024, not current sales totals.

How are Raspberry Pi Holdings and the Raspberry Pi Foundation related?
They are related but distinct organisations. At the time of the IPO, the Raspberry Pi Foundation was the company’s majority shareholder through Raspberry Pi Mid Co Limited. Some existing shareholders sold shares in the offer; the Foundation said money it raised from its share sale would support its ambitions for global impact. The company’s May 2024 announcement, confirmed float announcement, and IPO account describe these roles.
