In Visual Capitalist’s ranking of 23 countries, the 256GB iPhone Duo’s local price, converted to U.S. dollars, runs from $1,999 in the United States to $4,689 in Türkiye. The prices are dated to October 2, 2026, and the ranking shows nominal sticker prices. It does not measure affordability, and it does not tell a buyer what a device would cost after importing it.
What the ranking covers
Visual Capitalist published the ranking on October 8, 2026. It compares the 256GB iPhone Duo in 23 selected countries, converts each local price to U.S. dollars, and attributes the underlying dataset to OpenTheRank. The article says the prices reflect October 2, 2026. Credit for the graphic goes to Harris Saleem, and the article/editing credit goes to Srijaa Chatterjee.
Three limits apply to every figure in the table below:
- Dated. The reference date is October 2, 2026. Retail prices change, so the figures describe that day and nothing later.
- Converted. Each figure is a local price expressed in U.S. dollars. The article does not publish its exchange-rate series or conversion method, so a reader cannot reproduce the USD values from the article alone.
- Not independently re-collected. These are values reported by Visual Capitalist. They are not verified Apple Store prices, and the article does not link the OpenTheRank dataset.

The article offers several explanations for the spread: layered taxes and duties, currency movements, and regional pricing choices. It does not quantify how much each factor contributes to any market’s price, so the points below are the article’s reasoning rather than measured effects.
Rank #3

Türkiye: taxes and a weaker lira
The article says smartphone prices in Türkiye face a 20% VAT and a special consumption tax, among other levies. It also notes that the depreciation of the Turkish lira against the U.S. dollar can amplify local costs when they are expressed in dollars. Both points push the USD figure up, and the article does not separate the tax effect from the currency effect.
China: VAT and domestic competition
For China, the article reports $2,382 and says the displayed price includes 13% VAT. It also suggests that competition from domestic foldable-phone makers such as Huawei and Xiaomi may influence Apple’s pricing there. The article presents this as a possibility, not a demonstrated cause.
Rank #4
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Regional pricing choices
Apple sets prices market by market, and the article attributes part of the spread to those regional decisions. The source does not describe how individual price decisions were made, so this remains the article’s general explanation.

Why a low sticker price is not the same as a good deal
A ranking of converted prices answers one question: how the displayed price compares across markets on a single date. A buyer weighing a purchase abroad needs more than that. The following factors were not compared in the article:
Best Value
- Storage and model. The ranking covers only the 256GB tier. Other storage sizes are outside its scope.
- Local listing and date. Check the price in the local currency on the day you buy, then convert it with a rate from the same day.
- Taxes in the displayed price. Find out whether the listed local price includes VAT or other levies, and whether any import duty applies on arrival.
- Total landed cost. Shipping, destination charges and duties can move a cheaper sticker price above a domestic one.
- Warranty and support. Coverage can depend on the country of purchase, and the article does not compare warranties.
- Regional model and network compatibility. Regional model differences and carrier or network compatibility are not covered by the source.
- Affordability. The ranking does not adjust for take-home pay, so a high price in one country is not, on its own, a measure of how hard it is to afford.
How to check a current price yourself
- Confirm you are looking at the 256GB model, since that is the tier in the ranking.
- Open the official Apple website for the country you are checking and note the local price for that storage tier.
- Look up the exchange rate for the same day and convert the local price to U.S. dollars.
- Check whether the displayed price includes the local VAT or sales tax.
- If the device is being bought abroad, add shipping and any import duty, then confirm warranty and network compatibility before buying.
Prices and exchange rates change, so a check made today can differ from the October 2, 2026 figures.
What the ranking establishes, and what it does not
The ranking establishes that, on October 2, 2026, the 256GB iPhone Duo’s converted USD sticker price varied from $1,999 in the United States to $4,689 in Türkiye across the 23 countries Visual Capitalist selected. It does not establish affordability, a recommendation to import, the full cost of buying abroad, or a verified global price index. Use it as a snapshot of list prices on one date, not as a guide to where the device is best bought.
For a reader who wants to compare real options, the ranking is a starting point. The local listing, the tax treatment, the total cost of delivery and the warranty terms decide the actual outcome.
