Rain is likely around Charlotte on Sunday, October 4, including the Panthers’ Sunday Night Football game against the Lions at 8:20 p.m. ET. The National Weather Service forecasts showers Sunday and Sunday night; local broadcaster WBTV says rain could taper by kickoff, but fans should still expect wet seats and a wet field. Bring a poncho, not an umbrella, if you’re attending at Bank of America Stadium.
Will it rain during the Panthers game Sunday night?
The National Weather Service’s Charlotte point forecast, updated at 6:43 a.m. EDT on October 3, gives Sunday night a 60% chance of precipitation, with showers likely mainly before 1 a.m. and a low around 62°F. Its forecast range for new precipitation during the full Sunday-night period is 0.25–0.5 inches. That period spans more than the 8:20 p.m. kickoff and is not a prediction of rainfall during the game alone. National Weather Service Charlotte forecast

WBTV’s October 2 local forecast offers a more specific game-window outlook: rain could taper by kickoff, with temperatures in the mid-60s during the game. Meteorologist Paul Heggen cautioned that a lull would not necessarily mean dry conditions: “Even if the showers wind down, the seats will be wet, the field is definitely going to be sloppy. Just make sure you’re prepared. Bring a poncho because even if you don’t need it to protect yourself from the rain, you probably want to sit on it to stay dry.” WBTV forecast for the Panthers game

How the Sunday and Sunday-night forecasts differ
The forecasts describe different periods and types of estimates, so their rainfall figures should not be added together or treated as directly comparable. The NWS figures are Charlotte point-forecast probabilities and possible new precipitation for Sunday and Sunday night; WBTV’s figure is a broader weekend estimate for the Charlotte area.

- Bring a packable poncho. WBTV reports that umbrellas cannot be brought inside the stadium and quotes Heggen recommending a poncho. It can also serve as a barrier between you and a wet seat.
- Leave the umbrella at home. Do not plan to carry one into Bank of America Stadium; the reported stadium policy prohibits umbrellas inside.
- Prepare for damp seating even if rain eases. WBTV’s forecast suggests showers could taper by kickoff, but seats may remain wet.
A waterproof stadium seat cover is another possible way to keep a seat dry, though WBTV’s specific recommendation is a poncho.
