Rackwise is described by its creator as a Eurorack row planner that checks available space, module depth and power use while keeping those calculations separate from source-backed hardware claims. Its intended answer to “Does this row have enough space and power?” combines local arithmetic with an evidence layer that can flag missing or conflicting specifications rather than treating them as verified.

What Rackwise is designed to check

Kavin HBN describes Rackwise as a planning agent for assembling a Eurorack rack row. A user can add modules, choose a power reserve and ask whether the row has enough space and power. The system is said to check:

  • Available rack width in HP.
  • Physical module depth.
  • Use on the +12V, -12V and +5V power rails.
  • Whether retrieved sources cover the exact selected modules.
  • Whether source-backed specifications agree with the values used in the local calculation.

Those are the project’s stated capabilities, not independently confirmed behavior of a currently accessible application.

Why calculation and evidence are separate

Local engine handles the arithmetic

According to the creator’s account, a small TypeScript engine performs the rack-fit and power calculations. This gives the planner a defined place for numeric checks rather than asking an AI model to invent or adjust the answer.

Retrieved sources support hardware claims

Sanity is described as the source of hardware context. A specification becomes a bounded claim tied to the hardware identity, property, value and unit, a Knowledge Base path, and the original source when available. Width, depth and each power rail are considered separately.

The AI layer explains, but should not rewrite, results

The intended role for AI is to explain the outcome under constraints: it must not quietly change the local calculation or present unsupported specifications as verified. This division of work is Rackwise’s central design claim.

How exact module variants affect verification

Product names that look similar can refer to distinct hardware, so a specification for one model should not automatically verify another. HBN uses Expert Sleepers Disting EX and Disting NT as an example: Rackwise is said not to use NT measurements as evidence for an EX. If a source matching the selected variant is unavailable, that variant remains unverified.

  • Dynamic Sound Design - Along with patching features, Mavis includes a built-in keyboard with glide and keyboard scaling, allowing you to explore pitch relationships and intervals with flexibility

The creator also describes separating seemingly conflicting recording-duration claims for Make Noise Morphagene and Phonogene by product and operating mode. These examples illustrate the intended evidence discipline; they do not independently establish that the implementation handles every product or specification correctly.

What happens when sources are missing or disagree

Missing source coverage

When no matching source is found, the system is described as retaining the selected variant’s unverified status rather than borrowing data from another model. The result can therefore contain useful planning information without claiming complete evidence coverage.

Conflicts trigger review

If a source-backed claim conflicts with a planning value, the stated behavior is to request review rather than average the numbers or silently pick one. Rackwise’s Planner, Evidence and Trace views are described as ways to inspect those boundaries.

Synthrotek EcoSkiff Eurorack Case (84HP, Unpowered, Black Plastic Desktop Case)
  • Affordable Eurorack case with or without power!
  • Available in 24HP, 44HP, 64HP, 84HP, and 104HP

External service unavailable

The creator says local rack calculations can continue when an external service is unavailable. In that situation, Rackwise labels the result “catalog-only,” distinguishing a calculation based on its catalog from one supported by retrieved source evidence.

How the described request flow works

  1. The request is validated.
  2. The local engine calculates rack fit and power use.
  3. The system reads the Sanity Knowledge Base through MCP and routes the request to relevant entries.
  4. It retrieves material and extracts claims tied to sources.
  5. It rejects unsupported sources and claims for the wrong product variant.
  6. It compares the remaining claims with catalog values.
  7. It generates an explanation constrained by the calculation and evidence status.

This is the flow reported by the project author; the linked repository did not provide usable content for independent implementation review.

Trying the demo and interpreting the project’s checks

The project article instructs readers to open the Playground, add or remove modules, choose a power reserve, ask whether the row has enough space and power, and inspect the Evidence and Trace views. The author says the demo requires no account. The project account also reports per-device and per-IP request limits for the public demo.

What can be confirmed about Rackwise today

The substantive description available is Kavin HBN’s first-person project article on DEV Community, posted October 4; the visible article did not state a year. It documents the creator’s design and reported checks, but does not independently verify current behavior.

The linked demo resolved to an unrelated EuroStack site when checked, so its current identity, availability and Rackwise behavior could not be confirmed. The linked GitHub page did not yield usable repository content. Accordingly, Rackwise is best understood here as a creator-described design and implementation, not as a verified live tool.

What to look for in any Eurorack planner

Rackwise’s design highlights useful questions for evaluating a rack-planning tool, without establishing how it compares with alternatives:

  • Does it calculate HP width and module depth?
  • Does it account for +12V, -12V and +5V separately?
  • Does it distinguish exact module variants when matching specifications?
  • Can you see which claims have source coverage and which values conflict?
  • Does it preserve useful local calculations when evidence services are unavailable?

The author’s stated lesson is that source relevance and exact module matching mattered more than filling the Knowledge Base to its reported 150-document indexing limit. The project account says it used a smaller, focused collection of manufacturer sources and specification files instead.
